It’s Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Day at Caulfield on Saturday with I Wish I Win the current favourite.
Other quality races on the day include both the Thousand Guineas Prelude and the Caulfield Guineas Prelude.
The Foundation Cup over 2000m is also a good race with eight horses that are entered for the Melbourne Cup in the race.
Race one starts at 12:30pm, with the last of nine finishing at 5:25pm.
The track is currently rated a Good 4 but showery conditions are expected.
Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday September 17th
Race 1
(8) Head of State should run well if the track remains Good and he is better than his recent starts suggest. Both of his wins have come on firm ground and he should be fitter now. Craig Williams is on board for Chris Waller and despite his recent two losing margins being 21L i don’t think Waller would be putting him in this race if he wasn't training well at home.
(12) Pres de Toi comes from Warrnambool and has been racing in tremendous form and barrier one should give Dean Yendall a good opportunity to position up nicely.
(1) Global Gift is another who is racing in great form and from barrier 11 he will likely come over. He was caught wide at the Valley last start when third and should have finished closer.
(3) Fengerada is the likely favourite and will want it to rain. Is flying and is going for four on end here.
(8) Head of State Win
$6.50 (1 Unit)
Race 3
(10) Saigon worked home nicely when third at this track last time and is fitter now after recent racing and trialing. In the winter he ran a good fourth behind my second selection Adele Amour but on that occasion the wide barrier didn't really help. He draws better here in six and Craig Williams will likely settle him midfield for Waller.
(9) Adele Amour has the inside draw and does go well fresh. She ran third in a recent trial on Heavy ground and there were some good horses in that.
(5) Pride of Jenny was okay when seventh in a better race (Group3 Cockram) than this last time which has seen Kissonallfourcheeks go on to win since.
(2) Katalin will start favourite and has a good draw in two. She will get back and be running on and i think she will be better at Flemington in a few weeks’ time.
(10) Saigon Win
$5.50 (1 Unit)
Race 4
(2) Aft Cabin will be short enough, but he has loads of talent. Jamie Kah knows him well now and will look to be positive from the barriers. His maiden win at Sandown (Hillside) on a Soft track has been spoken about a lot and last time he was still solid when second to Jacqinot after he was backed to win. It's his first time on a Good track but from all reports he goes in any conditions. He is back to 1400m and that looks more suitable than the sharper 1200m last time.
(1) Osipenko comes down from New South Wales to start his Spring campaign. He has had a couple of trials where he wasn't asked to do much leading into this and reports from up North are that this horse is also quality. In his latest runs he has settled midfield so it is likely that he will have to chase Aft Cabin down to win which will be hard to do at Caulfield.
(4) Meridius ran well late at Moonee Valley but just missed last time and he is another that will be hitting the line hard for Gwenda Markwell.
(8) Sir Bailey has had no luck his last two starts but will be better for this run and will be followed.
(2) Aft Cabin Win
$2.40 (4 Units)
Race 6
(7) Daqiansweet Junior loves it dry and did enough first up in what was the first run of his Melbourne Cup campaign. He has won seven of 11 on Good ground and doesn’t mind the 2000m distance having won over it three times. He is obviously looking for further, but he could place in this for Philip Stokes and Jamie Kah. If it does rain throughout the afternoon and the track gets downgraded, then that does hinder his chances just a little bit.
(11) Emissary won well when resuming and after that the stable were hinting there were better races on the horizon for him. Barrier two should help Jye McNeil get a good run in transit.
(1) Gold Trip ran on well on Soft ground at Rosehill for third last time and he is fitter than a few of his rivals.
(4) Sheraz has a tricky barrier to contend with in 13 but does have Damien Oliver on. She was only beaten half a length here last time and the extra 300m suits.
(7) Daqiansweet Junior Place
$5.50 (1 Unit)
