Caulfield will host a nine-race program on Saturday on a track that is expected to be a Soft6. The first race is scheduled to start 10 minutes to midday, with the two-year-old’s racing over 1100m. Brendan Bunworth has done the form and provides his best bets for the key races below.

Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, July 8th 2023
Race 3: NEDS Toolbox Punters Handicap - 1pm (AEST)
(4) Artzino was a tad unlucky last start and the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr team must think he has trained on well to enter him in another city meeting. He is talented but has only won the 1 race from 6 attempts. He has a fast closing sectional on him and he is fitter now after two runs from a spell. He has won and placed on the Soft from his 2 starts on it.
(2) Tokenist climbs 400m to the 2000m and the Laurie camp must be confident he can run it out after running on well at Hillside last start. He will likely make his run with Artzino and I can see them fighting it out over the final 100m.
(6) So Sleek is the likely fav here after a good 2nd last start (Flemington). Before that it was a solid Bendigo win after sitting 3rd and he might sit just in front of my top 2 selections in this race.
(10) Torranzino is on the quick backup after winning at Warracknabeal last week.
(4) Artzino - WIN
$3.60 (3 Units)
Race 4: NEDS Bet Back Handicap - 1:35pm (AEST)
(6) Hazel Baby was unlucky at this track last start and can make amends here. She was caught in traffic when 5th (on the rails) last time and with open space, she should run on well. She is racing well and does like the Soft ground having won on it twice previously. Carleen Hefel stays on and she has won on her before.
(9) Our Red Morning will be running on well but does see the track and distance for the first time here. Matt Cartwright takes the ride for the first time.
(1) Anahita likes the wet so any rain will be an advantage on the morning. Won on the Heavy only a week and a half ago.
(2) Born Hustler will have to try and lead from barrier 13 and she might use up too much petrol early.
(6) Hazel Baby - WIN
$4.60 (2 Units)
Race 6: NEDS Price Boost Handicap - 2:55pm (AEST)
(2) Brigantine for Team Cummings and Ben Melham will be highly popular with punters here and so he should be after his Brisbane campaign in May/June. He has since trialed well at Canterbury and a Soft track looks ideal with him winning 3 of 5 times on it. He has good fresh form which is ideal after 5 weeks off the scene.
(3) Poland has drawn inside for Pinn but he does seem to go better on the Dry. He is quality though and has to be in the placings.
(5) Sir Davy does get back in his races and Pinn has chosen to go with Poland in this race. He did win well at a Werribee trial on May 16.
(7) Umgawa is fitter now but hasn’t won over this journey in 8 attempts. Has drawn well in 3.
(2) Brigantine - WIN
$2.80 (3 Units)
Race 9: NEDS Punter Assist Handicap - 4:42pm (AEST)
(13) The Nephew gets a better barrier here (8) after drawing (15) last start at this track where he ran a good race for 2nd. He will get back and will storm home late and the pace should be on in this which will assist. He is a previous Listed winner and he likes Caulfield and Soft tracks. Ticks quite a few boxes.
(15) The Big Buzz is over the odds and was only 1L behind The Nephew last start. He probably doesn’t want any rain in the lead up. If the track gets to Soft5, he has a bigger chance.
(8) French Emperor will be on speed and won’t want to over race this time. If he gets a gun run in 3rd or 4th position, he can win.
(7) Flash Flood is having his first try and the distance but the track conditions should suit. Won a Cranbourne jumpout at latest encounter.
(5) Green Fly is ready to strike but needs the Heavy I think. Will wait a few weeks before his spell.
(13) The Nephew - E/W
$8/$2.70 (1 Unit)
