Thoroughbred Racing returns to Caulfield on Saturday with a 10-race program on offer for punters. The first race starts at 11:55am (AEST) with the last concluding at 5:15pm (AEST). The track is currently rated a Good4 at the time of typing but there is 10mls of rain predicted on course between now and Saturday, so a Soft track is a slight chance too.

Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, August 19th 2023
Race 2: MRC Chairman’s Club First Renewal Alan Yates - 12:25pm (AEST)
(1) Life Lessons combines with Carleen Hefel for the first time and she gets a 1.5kg claim in this race which helps. The mare won a Pakenham jumpout three weeks ago and has won when first up for the Moody & Coleman stable previously. She started favourite at her last start in the Gold Bracelet at Bendigo (4th) and she is a horse that likes to settle midfield so barrier 7 should be fine.
(2) Starlight Scope has Jye McNeil on again and he rides him well. He likes Dry ground so won’t want rain on race morning.
(5) Hell Hound has drawn inside and has won over the track & distance.
(3) Tanjeed comes over from NSW and will likely settle back. A track downgrade would be a bonus. Snowden and Oliver combine.

Race 8: Ive Vain Stakes (Group 3) - 4:05pm (AEST)
(2) Cylinder smashed them in a Warwick Farm trial on August 4 and he has Blake Shinn on for the 2nd time. She has finished in the top 3 in all starts on a Good track and he was a great winner in a Group 2 at Randwick on March 4. Should be a win in the Spring for this one too. Goes well fresh and should be winning.
(4) I am Unstoppable is 1 from 1 on the Good and has been running well in jumpouts leading into this. He did win the Listed Redoutte’s Choice at Lakeside last campaign.
(5) Scheelite gets a Dry track for the first time. A watch this time around. Is going for a hat-trick of wins though and has to be included in exotics.
(6) Ouroboros had a tough run when winning here in July and will strip fitter again. Should settle in the op few early.
(2) Cylinder - WIN

Race 9: Lawrence Stakes (Group 2) - 4:40pm (AEST)
(1) Mr Brightside is going for 2 Lawrence Stakes in a row and can do it after an impressive jumpout win last time he hit the track. He has a great winning strike rate having won 11 of 23 starts and 9 of those wins have been with Craig Williams on. Hoe goes on all surfaces and is 1 from 1 over this track & distance. His first up form is solid without being great but he has had enough work with the recent jumpouts.
(11) Pinstriped is one of the fittest horses in the race and although he isn’t the most talented, he may have the hardness in him to run top 3.
(15) Attrition is first up and a couple of wins over the Spring are expected with this one. Has jumped out well leading into this.
(3) Tuvalu has drawn wide in 16 but has won 2 Casterton jumpouts leading into this. Has won 4 from 9 on the Good and won’t want much rain in the 24 hours leading up to the race.

Race 10: Take it to NEDS level Handicap - 5:15pm (AEST)
(9) Berkeley Square was pretty good when first up (4th) and should improve off that run. A 1600m start seems ideal and he will settle just worse than midfield before unleashing a run down the outside. Has placed at Caulfield previously.
(7) Sibaaq has drawn well in 3 for Annabel Neasham and Damien Lane, and this horse does like Dry tracks. Is 2nd up and should be fitter for the first up 4th at Rosehill.
(2) Smokin’ Romans will be better in a few weeks’ time but is good enough to place in this. Has won at Caulfield before and gets a 2kg claim.
(3) Right You Are has won 7 of 12 on the Good and has won 2 races over this distance. First up form is solid. Gets a 1.5kg claim.
