Saturday racing in Melbourne heads to Caulfield for a cracking meeting. With spring just around the corner we begin to see some of the elite horses returning to the track. The card is highlighted by the Vain Stakes and the PB Lawrence.
The track is currently rated a good 4 but there are showers around so expect a soft track. The rail is out 9 metres the entire circuit.
As always, Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the program and brings you his free horse racing tips, including best bets and race previews.
Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday August 13th
Race 1
(6) Cheif Altony surely notches another well deserved win here. He has been a model of consistency without winning and probably should have won 2 or 3 of his last four runs. He draws well today, loves the mile and with the in-form Willo taking over I expect he sees every chance.
No doubt (7) Jimmy The Bear looks the danger and is the complete opposite to the Chief. This horse does know how to find the winning post and is building an imposing record. Ticked off the mile box last time out.
We last saw (2) Tralee Rose going around in a Melbourne Cup. She’ll obviously improve with racing but can generally run well over this sort of trip first up.
(4) So Si Bon loves the Caulfield mile and while he isn’t getting any younger we know his best form is good enough here.
(6) Chief Altony
$2.50 (2.5 units)
Race 5
Super hot race this years Vain with some exciting sprinters on show.
(6) Giga Kick is exciting and has looked a black-type horse in the two start we’ve seen of him. Has had a little freshen up since a comfortable win at Flemington running good time. He can sit off the speed here and should present at the right time with an electric turn of foot.
Race fitness should take (5) Alpha One a long way here. He’s simply been too fast for his rivals this prep and shows no signs of slowing down yet. He can lead these up and prove too hard to catch with plenty of racing in his legs recently.
(3) Millane has had just the one career start for a good win and stable have been patient with him. Has been jumping out very well and Moody has his younger horses proper airborne at the moment.
(1) Semillon won the Kindergarten Stakes at end of last prep and has the runs on the board. Hasn’t run a poor race and he maps for a good run on speed.
Nothing wrong with (4) Thron Bone’s form and him being the price he is tells you how strong this race is.
(6) Giga Kick
$4.25 (1 unit)
Race 6
(12) Waltz On By is still a maiden but has contest some very strong races and been far from disgraced. A recent jump out was as good as you’ll see and she could be on a guineas path. Barrier 2 with Kah on is a likeable combination.
Always like the Sydney form when they bring them here and (7) Lady Laguna ticks that box. She very nearly won a listed race fresh last prep and handles all conditions.
(6) She’sgottheboom deserves a crack down south after three straight wins in QLD last prep. She’ll need to find a length to win here I feel but she certainly has some X factor.
(4) I’mlovinya looked good at two runs last prep and the times she ran backed up the efforts. She’s a promising type and looks ready to take the next step this prep.
(12) Waltz On By
$6.00 (1.5 units)
Race 7
(6) Showmanship is a classy horse from WA who was a winner at this track first up two preps ago. He is a gun fresh horse and has jumped out very well for his return. He’s a lightly raced 7yo with just nine starts and has won seven of those. Get the feeling he’s in for a big prep and just think he’s a backable price.
No doubt (11) Uncommon James is exciting and deserves a crack down here in Melbourne. He’s been running good time up north but I think he’s extremely well found at the current price.
(7) Feleicia should be just about ready now 3rd up and get the feeling she’s been building to another win.
(4) Open Minded has been jumping out well and is a deadset Caulfield specialist. He flies fresh and is probably a decent value play.
Value: (4) Open Minded - $11 (0.25 units)
(6) Showmanship
$6.00 (1 unit)
