CAUFLIELD RACING TIPS
RACE 3
Two horses I'll be backing here. Prometheus had good backing at big odds last start when he absolutely bolted in at Flemington over this distance. It was his third run for the Matthew Dale stable and they certainly knew he'd win. He's had five weeks since that run, with a trial at Canberra in between, and if he turns up in the same form as he did last start, he'll win again. He draws very well in barrier 4 and should be in the first four in running based on what we saw last start. Looks very hard to hold out. Intueri should also go forward. He's had two wins and a 2nd in his past three starts, including one at this track and distance last start. The 3kg claim helps his cause again today and if he can sit outside the leader wtihout doing too much work, he should be there for a long way.
RACE 7
A few I'm keen to back here too. Manolo Blahniq looks the one to beat on what we saw last start over this track and distance, when he ran 2nd to Naantali. He didn't get a lot of luck at a crucial stage but he ran home strongly. He's never finished out of the top two in his three starts at the track and distance and barrier 4 today suits him much better than barrier 1 did last start. Fastnet Tempest looks the clear value in the race to me. He didn't have any luck last start and looked to have plenty to offer. He comes into today's race third up from a spell. From four previous runs when third up, he's won three and run 2nd on the other occasion. Craig Williams is a notable jockey booking and at $10 he's definitely worth backing. Sircconi is another that had no luck last start. Gets blinkers on for the first time today, should lead and has a good record at the track and distance. I'll be backing Manolo Blahniq and Fastnet Tempest with a saver on Sircconi.
Value: Fastnet Tempest $10
RACE 9
Good little race to finish things off. I'm interested in the Godolphin runner Haunted, who comes into this first up from a spell. He's undefeated when first up from two previous attempts and he's only ever missed a placing once from 11 starts. Last prep he had three wins and three 3rds from six starts, including wins at 1100m and 1400m, so today's distance is no worry. The stable typically have their runners ready to win first up, so with 54kg and a good draw, he looks a big chance of winning.
