Canterbury Betting Tips: Monday, January 1st 2024
Race 2: Ranvet Maiden Plate 1200m at 3:20pm AEDT
(10) KITTY CHAT ($2.45) – 3YO filly out of the Waterhouse stable who showed promise on debut. She has since had two nice trials. She looks as though she will be another front runner for the stable and cannot dismiss. Will be fit coming out of the trials and experienced for the debut run. She will take catching.
(10) KITTY CHAT
$2.45 (2 Units)
Race 4: James Squire BM72 1250m at 4:40pm AEDT
(4) FANGELA ($5.00) –6YO who flew late to score in open class at his latest run. He gets a nice draw here and a 3kg claim with Mollie BOURKE in the saddle. He boasts a nice record and will be the one to beat again. Early market support has already seen him $6.5 into $5. Goes well.
(8) LANCASTER BOMBER ($11.00/$3.10) – Veteran Galloper who hasn’t been all that far away of late and showed improvement last run. Looks good enough to fill the minors here and worth thought at big odds.
(4) FANGELA
$5.00 (2 Units)
Race 5: Schweppes BM64 1550m at 5:20pm AEDT
*SCRATCHED* (11) BANGETTA ($4.60) – 3YO filly who has been racing very well. Last start flew home to score by almost 2L in a class 1. Up in grade now and distance, but off last starts win it looks ideal. Fourth up now and will be peaking fitness. Only concern is the wide draw, but if she can find some cover and doesn’t get stuck wide she will be flying late. Suggest TT+ as market is drifting.
(9) UTOPIAN WINE ($4.20) – 3YO filly who won in this grade last start over the mile nicely. Draws well and strips fitter third up. Tommy BERRY remains in the saddle and will once again be a major player here. Worth thought.
Race 7: Kia Canterbury Sprint 1200m at 6:30pm AEDT
(8) SPACEBOY ($31/$6.50) – 7YO who appears to be the roughie chance in the field and looks over the odds for my liking. He comes in off a nice trial win and has nice first up form with a win and 5 seconds. If he drew a little closer id be super keen to be on here, but with the tricky gate it relies on him jumping well and getting into a nice spot. Still expect him to be hitting the line nicely at big odds.
(6) BRUDENELL ($4.60) – 4YO gelding who lead and fought on well to score last start in BM88 grade. Boasts a terrific winning record with 7 wins from 13 runs. Wide barrier also a concern though, but his early speed should get him up the front and expect him to dictate the race and take catching again here. Goes well.
ALSO BACKING: (6) BRUDENELL – WIN $4.60 (1 UNIT)
(8) SPACEBOY E/W
$31/$8.50 (0.5 Units)
