With just one round to go in the Big Bash League, we thought it would be a an opportune time to take a look at some of our results so far with both round by round picks as well as our futures bets which are going to give us a nice sweat in the final matches of the season!
Pre-Season picks
Stars to win outright @ $5.50 – currently trading at $2.30 favourites. The Stars have been awesome and are so far undefeated in the BBL03. Can they go all the way? They will get a home semi-final and at that point you may like to consider laying off some or all of your bet, as anything can happen in a final. Either way, this bet is looking great for a nice profit.
Hurricanes to finish last @$9 – nope. Thunder to finish last @$5.75 – virtually a lock. We backed both the Hurricanes and Thunder to finish last, and although the Hurricanes have battled to a couple of wins, the Thunder have managed to win just one game and will most likely collect another wooden spoon to give us a $5.75 winner.
Evan Gulbis to take most tournament wickets at @$51 – nope. Not a good season for Gulbis.
Shaun Marsh to score more runs than Rob Quiney (incl. Finals) @$1.83 - This should be a winner. Marsh has 130 runs but may not play another game this season due to national commitments. Quiney came into the Stars team late in the season and has scored 35 runs with possibly three more games left. However Quiney copped a shoulder injury which may put him in real doubt. We should be able to hold here and win this bet.
Sydney Thunder leading run scorer – Mike Hussey @$3.05 – virtually a lock. A great season for Mike Hussey and unless Usman Khawaja posts a huge score in the final match, then we’ll collect nicely here.
Adelaide Strikers leading run scorer – Alex Hales @$4.00 – almost no hope. A rather poor season by Hales as he trails Michael Klinger by 79 runs with the Strikers likely to only have one more match to go. Consider this one gone.
Sydney Sixes leading run scorer – Nic Maddinson @$5.00 – Maddinson has had a terrible season but somehow is still an outside chance. He’ll need a big performance with up to three more games for the Sixers as trails Michael Lumb by 66 runs. He’s good enough to turn it around.
Brisbane Heat leading run scorer - Craig Kieswetter @$5.50 – a chance. Kieswetter has been hot and cold but he trails Chris Lynn by just 27 runs. The Heat have anywhere from 1-3 games remaining depending on results, so we’re still a chance here for a $5.50 winner.
Mike Hussey to score most tournament runs @$13 – outside chance. With runs to Ben Dunk and Luke Wright, Hussey has been bumped down to 5th on the list, trailing Aaron Finch and Wright by 25 runs. Finch won’t play another game, but Hussey won’t play finals either so he only has one more game to make an impact. Biggest threats are likely to come from Simon Katich, Cameron White and Luke Wright and who may all play two finals, while Ben Dunk may also sneak into finals. Hussey will need a big score and for them to fail in the finals.
Simon Katich to score most tournament runs @$67 – huge chance! Currently 4th on the list but only 10 runs behind Aaron Finch and Luke Wright. Katich will play at least one final, and with Aaron Finch out of action, he really just needs to outmatch Wright, and possibly Dunk, from here out for us to land a $67 winner! Gogogogo!
