BBL11 Thunder vs Hurricanes Betting Tips
Marvel Stadium, Thursday 13th January, 3.45pm (AEDT)
Sydney Thunder
Predicted XI: Matthew Gilkes, Alex Hales, Jason Sangha, Daniel Same, Oliver Davies, Ben Cutting, Baxter Holt, Nathan McAndrew, Grinder Sandhu, Tanveer Sangha, Muhammad Hasnain
The Thunder have won their last six games on the trot and look the team to beat in the BBL at the moment. They lost Sam Billings to international duty but the rest of their batting line-up has picked up the slack in a big way. Over their winning streak, they’ve had match winning innings from Matthew Gilkes, Alex Hales, Jason Sangha and even Daniel Sams.
I don’t expect them to make any changes to this line-up given they have been playing so well of late. Captain Chris Green will certainly come back into the side at some point though, but has to serve his full seven day isolation period after a positive COVID test.
Hobart Hurricanes
Predicted XI: Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Peter Handscomb, Harry Brook, D’Arcy Short, Tim David, Jordan Thompson, Mitchell Owen, Tom Rogers, Riley Meredith, Sandeep Lamichhane
While the Scorchers are trending in the right direction of late, the Hurricanes are going the opposite way. They have lost two of their last three and their reliance on Ben McDermott with the bat has to be taking a toll on the opener.
Matthew Wade remains out of the line-up for personal reasons with no timetable for a return while D’Arcy Short looks an absolute shell of his former self. On paper at the start of the season, the Canes batting line-up was their strength, but it’s hard to fancy them based on current form.
Match Prediction
There’s just no way I can make a case for the Canes here outside of another Ben McDermott century. The Canes are predictably 3-0 when the hard hitting opener has made a big score of 90+, but when he has failed to do that, they are just 2-6.
On the contrary, the Thunder have no less than five batsmen who are capable of going off for a match winning performance and have already proven so this season. They are the form team of the competition at the moment and I won’t be betting against them here.
Same Game Multi
The first two legs of our multi will be both Ben McDermott and Jason Sangha to score 10+ runs. McDermott has been the form batsman of the competition so far this season, scoring 457 runs at an average of 65.29.
Sangha has played just seven innings since finding a role in the Thunder side, but already he has shot to fourth on the BBL run scorers list, compiling 294 runs at an average of 58.80.
Our third leg will be the first wicket of the match to be caught. This bet has got up in over 80% of the games this season and we just can’t get enough of the value.
