Round five of BBL06 came and went, now we are truly into the business end of the season with our Round 6 betting tips beginning Monday, the 9th of January. The Brisbane heat sit atop the table with 4 wins from their 5 games, while the Scorchers and Sixers are hot on their tail, both with 3 wins. There is then a log jam of four teams with 2 wins before the struggling Thunder bring up the rear. With only around 3 games left to play for each team, the ladder positions are becoming all important and round six shapes up to be an important deciding factor, with every team playing except the Thunder.
BBL06 Round 6 Betting Tips
Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Renegades (Monday 9th, 7.40pm AEDT)
The Renegades will travel to Sydney to kick off round six as they look to move up into the top four with a win over the Sixers. A loss in the 2nd Melbourne Derby on Saturday night meant the Renegades slipped to 2-2 on the season, they along with the Stars being the only teams left to have only played four games.
It feels like an age since the Sixers have played. They had a busy schedule in the first four rounds, playing five games, it has died down significantly though, this being their first game since the 3rd of January. While the Heat are dominating, the Sixers have been the surprise packet of the tournament in my opinion. Their bowling has been outstanding and could improve with the addition of Mitch Starc and Josh Hazelwood now that the Tests are over.
It’s a tough game to call, the Renegades spin has been winning them games, however we saw what can happen when they get it slightly wrong when the Stars hammered 200 against them on Saturday. The Sixers don’t have the batting lineup of the Stars though, meaning the Melbourne spinners should be able to control the tempo of the game and keep Sydney to a low total.
TIP: Renegades to Win - $1.90 at CrownBet
Melbourne Stars vs Adelaide Strikers (Tuesday 10th, 7.14pm AEDT)
The Stars are making up for a light schedule to start the season by playing 3 games over the next 2 rounds. They face the Strikers on Tuesday, who also have two wins on the season so far. After two losses to the Renegades and Thunder, the Stars got back on track Saturday night with a dominant display over the Renegades to level their series. Kevin Pietersen was at his best with a blistering 73 off 46 while David Hussey showed he can still hit the deep ball with an important 27 off just 11 at the back end of the innings.
The Strikers are also coming off a win. Friday night saw them level their series against the Hurricanes at 1-all as they chased down the Hurricanes 161 with 10 balls to spare. Ben Dunk is proving to be the acquisition of the off season, blasting 79 off 49 balls to make it a simple task for Adelaide. This one proves to be a good contest, the Stars might have hit their straps in the win over the Renegades, and will be really pushing for a win here as they will likely lose James Faulkner and Glenn Maxwell for a few games soon due to international duty. With the home field advantage in hand, I’m backing the Stars to win this one.

Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers (Wednesday 11th, 6.40pm AEDT)
First will host second in Wednesday night’s fixture as the Scorchers travel to Brisbane to play in what could be the determining factor into who claims the minor premiership. The Heat’s batting lineup has been ridiculous this season, especially at the GABBA. The Scorchers on the other hand are continuing their ways of being the most dominant team in BBL history. Whatever they do seems to work for them, sitting now at 3 wins from 5 games, they’ll welcome back Hilton Cartwright into the team for this clash.
The two teams played on Thursday night and the Heat came away with the win after another dominant display by Heat superstar Chris Lynn. Lynn smashed 98 off just 49 balls, hitting 11 sixes in the process. It’s hard to bet against the Heat when Lynn is in this form, luckily for the rest of the league, Lynn could miss a few games after being selected in the Australian ODI squad to take on Pakistan.
Note: Mitch Marsh and Chris Lynn have both not been selected in their respective teams due to international duty, earlier in the week I tipped Brisbane to win, however, with out Lynn I'm not confident in that pick and will be going with the Scorchers.
TIP: Perth Scorchers to Win - $1.81 at CrownBet
Melbourne Renegades vs Hobart Hurricanes (Thursday 12th, 7.40pm AEDT)
The Renegades will play their 2nd match of round 6 Thursday as they host the Hurricanes at Etihad Stadium. The Hurricanes desperately need a win here to stay in contention. With 2 wins from 5 games so far, their season could be decided here. Their two wins have both come at the hands of dominant batting performances by openers D’Arcy Short and Tim Paine. It seems they fall away, quickly, after that, with Kumar Sangakkara, George Bailey and Dan Christian all having pretty lackluster tournaments thus far. It’ll be hard for that middle order to find any sort of form against the lethal spinning duo that the Renegades possess in Brad Hogg and Sunil Narine.
The Renegades will be hoping they can make it one from two in round six after a tough loss to the Sixers on Monday night. While they probably only need to win one to set themselves up to play finals BBL, they will be disappointed at the loss on Monday night and look to get back in the winners column here. Aaron Finch was going a likely absentee from this game, however, he was dropped from the ODI Squad to play Pakistan in favour of Chris Lynn. The Renegades should go into this one full strength and I’m tipping them to come away with the win.
