Bowling
Of the two facets of the Hurricanes game, you’d have to think the bowling is probably the weaker one. There’s no doubt they have some talent, with the likes of Nepalese spinner Sandeep Lamichhane and West Indian Keemo Paul set to play half of the season each.
Their home-grown talent in the bowling ranks leaves a little to be desired, with Nathan Ellis, Scott Boland and Riley Meredith likely to fill the remaining three bowling spots for the majority of the season. Of those three, Meredith has the potential to take the next step and become a premier limited overs pace bowler. Back him to top the Canes wicket taker list.

Batting
The batting department is where the Canes have made their money over the past few seasons and it’ll be where they mount a title run again this season. D’Arcy Short has been arguably the best batsman in the Big Bash League for the better part of three seasons now and will be at the top of the order once again this season. The Canes have three imports who will likely share two batting positions throughout the year in Will Jacks (ENG), Colin Ingram (SA) and the No.1 T20 batsman in the world, Englishman Dawid Malan.
That’s already a really impressive top order, but then you have to throw in a trio of players who have proven themselves worthy of Australian international selection in the past in Ben McDermott, Peter Handscomb and all-rounder James Faulkner, all of whom will be available for the full BBL10 season. Oh, and if the Canes make the finals, throw one of the most in-form Australian batsman in Matthew Wade into the mix. Short is by name and nature in the betting odds, look to his likely opening partner Will Jacks for some real value in the top run-scorer market.

Prediction: 4th
The Canes have one of the best batting line-ups assembled this season in the Big Bash League. Expect them to be near the top of the ladder, fighting with the powerhouses of the competition for the top four spots. Currently, their lacking bowling department leaves them in fourth place in our rankings, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they climbed higher.
