Opening Round and the official Round 1 are now in the books, and now it's time to turn our attention to Round 2 of the exciting 2024 AFL season. It all begins on Thursday night with what's now a very important clash for the defending premiers; the Magpies will take on the Saints at the MCG with both teams hunting their first win of the season. Friday night footy in Round 2 heads to Adelaide where the Crows will take on the Cats, while a three-game slate on Saturday and a three-game slate on Sunday will round out the weekend. 2024 AFL Round 2 Tips
Thursday March 21st
Round 2 action begins on Thursday night with the Saints and the Magpies doing battle at the MCG. The Saints are 0-1 after falling to the Cats last weekend, while the Magpies have started 0-2 in their premiership defence. This sets up a huge game for both clubs to get the round underway!
Friday Match 22nd
The Crows fell just short in their comeback attempt against the Suns in Round 1, while the Cats got the better of the Saints in a tight tussle. These clubs will now lock horns in Adelaide on Friday night in what should be an entertaining clash.
Saturday March 23rd
North Melbourne were far from embarrassed first up against the Giants, albeit going down comfortably. They now get their first look at a home game for premiership points in 2024 and will take on the Dockers in the first of three Saturday games.
The Hawks were outworked by the Bombers in their first up loss and now face the Demons who are coming off a very handy win against the Bulldogs. Can the Hawks put up a fight, or will this be all one-way traffic?
Closing out Saturday action in Round 2 is a clash at the SCG between the Swans and the Bombers. Both teams are coming off Round 1 wins and will be looking to build some early season momentum. Regardless, it will be the Swans who will start the very heavy favourites.
Sunday March 24th
An interesting battle in Ballarat will get Sunday's proceedings underway, with the Bulldogs playing host to the Suns. The Dogs will be eyeing off their first win of the season after failing against the Demons in Round 1, while the Suns be looking ot make it 3/3 under Damien Hardwick.
The Tigers fell devastatingly close against the Blues in Round 1 and are now 0-2 on the season. It doesn't get any easier in Round 2 when they host the Power who are coming off a strong showing against the Eagles.
Concluding Round 2 will be a clash between the Eagles and the Giants at Optus Stadium. The Eagles won the corresponding game last year, which was one of only three wins for the season. Regardless, they'll be the huge underdogs to replicate that result.
