AFL Round 17 Sunday Betting Tips
Carlton vs Adelaide
Metricon Stadium, 1:05pm (AEST)
Carlton were able to overcome a big 39 point deficit against Sydney in Round 16 to keep their very slim finals hopes alive. A lot needs to go their way if they’re to sneak inside the top eight, but fans would be pleased with their improvement this season nonetheless.
Adelaide have managed to reel off back to back wins after going winless through their first 13 games of the season. Their most recent win against the Giants was pretty impressive and provided glimpses of the future with Himmelberg and McAdam jagging a couple of goals each.
The Crows may be coming off back to back wins, but they now venture away from Adelaide where they’ve struggled mightily this season. We expect a bit of a drop off from them this round and for the Blues to put their foot down to keep their finals hopes alive.
Hawthorn vs Western Bulldogs
Adelaide Oval, 3:35pm (AEST)
Hawthorn’s struggled continued against the Saints in Round 16 when they went down by 14 points. The Hawks have now lost six in a row and 10 of their last 11 in what has been a nightmare season after such a promising start.
Western Bulldogs were able to secure a very, very important four points against West Coast. The Dogs are enjoying a solid stretch with three wins from their last four games and their sole loss was against a classy Cats unit.
The Hawks are in horrible form and can’t buy a win at the moment, while the Bulldogs are in good touch and have it all to play for. The line has been set at around 20 points in the Dogs favour and we still don’t think that’s big enough. This could easily end up being another blowout loss for the Hawks.
Western Bulldogs -19.5

Sydney vs Brisbane
Cazaly’s Stadium, 6.10pm (AEST)
Sydney looked a sure thing when they led the Blues by six goals in the second quarter in Round 16, but they weren’t able to put the foot on the gas and ended up five point losers. The Swans haven’t been able to string together consecutive wins at all this season, which is the type of inconsistency you come to expect from young teams.
Brisbane were far too good for Gold Coast in the QClash, defeating them by 45 points at the Gabba. The Lions have put together another really strong season and come into this round having won five matches on the trot. A top two spot is crucial for the Lions and they’re now in the box seat to achieve it.
The Swans haven’t been able to win many games this season, but at least they’ve stayed competitive in most of their losses. Only one of their 10 losses have been by more than six goals, which was against the Saints in Round 9. We’re expecting a similar story again on Sunday, with the Lions coming away with a 20-30 point win.
