AFL Round 15 Tuesday Betting Tips
Hawthorn vs Adelaide
Adelaide Oval, 5:40pm (AEST)
Hawthorn looked a good thing when they led Essendon by 36 points at half time last weekend, but boy did things change after the main break. They were thoroughly beaten in the contest and gave up some huge disposal numbers to Bomber midfielders. The Hawks have now lost eight of their last nine matches and have slipped down to 15th spot on the ladder.
Adelaide fans had the pleasure of not having to watch their team play last weekend when they had their scheduled bye. It’s been a historically bad season for the Crows, who are now a huge chance to go the full season without a win.
The Hawks have absolutely dominated this match-up for the best part of a decade now. Since 2012, they lead the Crows 10-1 in the H2H count and that includes 5/5 Hawk wins in South Australia.
This fixture certainly won’t break any TV ratings records and it may be a bit of a grind to sit through, but we believe there is some money to be made by taking the Hawks by 1-39 points. Yes, they’re in awful form at the moment, but the Crows are just something else. Hawthorn should be winning comfortably, but lack the firepower to blow the score out in the shortened quarters.
West Coast vs Essendon
Gabba, 8.10pm (AEST)
West Coast put up a decent fight in the first half of their clash with Richmond last weekend, but weren’t able to sustain it for the full four quarters. It certainly didn’t help their cause that Josh Kennedy went down with concussion in the first quarter, but they were still clearly the second best side on the night. That loss saw the Eagles slip out of the top four, but they’re still in the box seat considering they have a game in hand.
Essendon’s season looked like it was over at half time against Hawthorn in Round 14, but whatever Rutten/Worsfold said during the break certainly ensured that wasn’t the case. The Bombers, led by Joe Daniher (10 marks, 3 goals), were an inspired unit after the main break and stay in touch with the top eight on the back of that huge comeback win.
The Eagles have given the Bombers the business in their two most recent meetings; both however, were at the fortress that is Optus Stadium. Historically, the home team has had a gigantic edge in this matchup, so it certainly makes it tricky being on a neutral ground on Tuesday night.
This is a tough one to get a read on because both clubs are nearly impossible to trust under these circumstances. You can never be sure which Bombers outfit is going to show up on a week to week, or even quarter to quarter basis; and for the Eagles, they’ve been just horrible away from Perth this season. All things considered, we slightly fancy the Bombers with the 19.5 point head start, but it’s certainly a low-bet game.
