AFL Daily Fantasy Tips 2025: Round 6 Friday

April 17th 2025, 2:25pm, By: Jesse Penfold

AFL Fantasy Tips

This Good Friday for Round 6 of the 2025 AFL Premiership season we get a super fan two-game slate for daily fantasy. Things get underway mid afternoon with North Melbourne and Calrton meeting at Marvel Stadium. Both sides have had what they would consider disappointing starts to the season with just one win apiece and will be very keen at the opporunity for a second win in this matchup. Then for the night game we go out west where the West Coast Eagles will host Essendong at Optus Stadium. This is another game between two struggling teams with the Eagles looking for their first win of the year and the Bombers attempting to put a win streak together after beating Melbourne last week.

As always this is all about the daily fantasy and this massive Friday slate at Draftstars draws a $60,000 prize pool in their main contest. In addition, there are a variety of alternate contests:

AFL $60,000+ Friday

AFL $5,000+ Friday High Roller ($150 Entry)

AFL $3,000+ Friday Mini ($2 Entry)

The AFL Star contest is back again for 2025 and Draftstars are once again offering the biggest prize pool in Australian DFS history with a $1 million guaranteed final with $250,000 top prize! There are qualifiers and satellites running for every AFL match.

Weather

Marvel stadium – always perfect football conditions.

Perth – 22 degrees and partly cloudy.

Let’s play!

Where to Attack?

Plenty of options on this slate with four of the worst teams in the league through five games playing. Let’s start off with the bottom of the ladder 0-5 West Coast Eagles. No shocks that with a percentage of 49 so far this season they are giving up the most points in the league to forwards. Specifically key forwards are lighting them up at over 12 points per game above league average which is almost 4 points higher than the second team. They are also giving up the most points in the league to rucks at a jaw dropping 20 points per game above league average. Inside midfielders are not as high as you would expect but still a reasonable 4 points above league average through five games. All in all, Essendon stacks will be popular on this slate and despite the game being in Perth, the Bombers are 26 point favourites.

On the flip side the Bombers have been giving up big scores to opposition backs, so stacking up this game with Eagles backs and bombers through forward and midfield makes for a perfect game script.

In the other match, Carlton have been leaking points to inside midfielders this year, which is a surprise considering how well their midfield performed last year. They are giving up over 6 points above league average through five games. On the flip side North are holding opposition midfielders to below average scores, therefore by the stats North should be on top through the middle. Where North have been leaking is to oppositions forwards, giving up over 5 points above league average to key forwards.

Game Script – Essendon forwards, rucks and inside midfielders, West Coast backs

VALUE PLAYS

Brady Hough ($7,950) / Tom Gross ($7,830)

Two separate value options from West Coast to consider on this slate. Hough as a cheap option to include in your Eagles defender stacks. As noted above the Bombers have been giving up one of the higher marks in the league to backs this season, and you can expect plenty of the ball to be down in the Eagles backline given the Bombers are heavy favourites.

Gross as the other option is a young mid in his first year who has surprisingly seen plenty of opportunity already as an inside mid. Through two games he is averaging 70% centre bounce attendances and has returned back-to-back games of 62 and 72 fantasy points.

Jade Gresham ($9,630) has been in top form the past two weeks returning scores of 75 and 95 fantasy points. This should be his easiest matchup of the season and is a great value option if you are stacking up the Bombers forward line.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Ryan Maric ($11,740) as we have mentioned in previous weeks, Maric’s move to the back line has been a very successful one fantasy wise. He has been taking the kick in duties with 10 kick ins last week allowing for an easy 30 fantasy points. His scores have resulted in his price rising all the way up from $6k range a few weeks ago, but he is still a strong option for the West Coast back stacks on this slate. It is worth noting that Jeremy McGovern ($11,130) as a slightly lower price is back in the lineup this week.

Peter Wright ($10,470)… what a game to return from injury in. Wright should be able to ease himself into a bag of goals here, as we noted above with West Coast giving up the most in the league to key forwards by a long way. In addition to playing up forward, Wright will also pinch hit in the ruck quite a bit which will allow him to take advantage of the fact the Eagles are giving up over 20 points above league average to that position. If you are looking to roster the Bombers main ruck, Sam Draper at $3k more is certainly in play.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Zach Merrett ($17,640) is going to be the obvious play on this slate against West Coast. Averaging almost 120 points per game this season, unfortunately we need to pay right up to get him. I will lean more to the Bombers cheaper priced midfielders in Will Setterfield ($14,540) who returned 104 in his first game of the season last week, as well as Dylan Shiel ($14,680) who has looked far better in recent weeks, and Sam Durham ($13,970) who’s another viable option or stacks.
