Just the two games this Sunday in the AFL but a couple of interesting match ups for us in terms of AFL fantasy and constructing our lineups at Draftstars.
First up, the Bombers will be looking for a big win against the Eagles under the roof of Marvel Stadium. That’s followed by the Dockers and the Suns in a match that should produce plenty of big fantasy numbers.

Weather
Melbourne - Partly cloudy, 14 degrees.
Perth - Medium chance of showers, 17 degrees.
No worries in Melbourne where the roof will be closed at Marvel. There’s some heavy rain in Perth on Saturday but should be mostly cleared up by Sunday. There’s a chance of some showers but seems unlikely to make a big impact on the match.
Where to Attack?
The Bombers have been very good this season and restrictive in a lot of areas in terms of AFL fantasy. They aren’t giving up points to opposition forwards or midfielders. By contrast, the Eagles, despite their recent improvements, are still giving up some of the most points int he league to opposition forwards.
The second game looks a good spot for a returning Jarrod Witts who should enjoy a great matchup against Fremantle who have been all over the place with their rucks this season with Sean Darcy struggling. The Dockers have also been giving up huge points to the opposition’s designated kicker, so the Suns have a couple of great options who love some cheap kicks down back.
Game script: Essendon forwards, Gold Coast ruck and defenders
VALUE PLAYS
David Swallow / Bailey Humphrey ($6,000) are both in play at a minimum price tag, especially with the lack of good value options, your choice just depends on who gets lumped with the dreaded sub vest. The upside is there if they can play out a full game. Humphrey usually has a pretty solid floor, but did go missing last week with an awful 11 in 73% game time. If you ignore that, he did ton up a few weeks ago against the Cats which would be amazing at this price. Similarly Swallow has been nursed through this season with plenty of vest time, but can usually hit value if he gets enough time on the field. Had an 85 four weeks ago. Easy switch if one of them gets the vest.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Peter Wright ($10,480) / Kyle Langford ($10,990) are the key forward targets for the Bombers who are big favourites against the Eagles. Langford has been pretty consistent over the last few seasons, but hasn’t hit the scoreboard in his last two matches. Some would say he’s due. Peter Wright is also a big threat and potentially has multiple ways to score as he gets up the ground to get a few extra marks or hitouts.
Jarrod Witts ($13,340) returns from injury and should be fresh and ready to go against a Dockers team who have leaked points in the ruck this season. Sean Darcy looks to be struggling physically and while he job-shares with Luke Jackson, it makes it hard to pick either of them. Witts typically gets most of his points through hitouts and has three tons and another four 90’s for a 96.0 season average which is pretty solid but we’re really looking for him to ton up again here.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Jordan Clark ($14,970) has been having a great month which is hard to ignore. Yes, the match ups have been favourable for the Dockers defenders, but there’s no doubt that their backline loves nothing more than kicking it sideways. Clark provides some good run so he often ends up with the ball in his hands out of the Dockers backline. Clark’s last four matches have returned 141, 128, 151 and 95 which is a superb return, and a score that will break a slate!
Sam Flanders ($16,800) is the most expensive player on this slate but it’s hard to look past him given the favourable matchup and his recent form. Flanders is averaging 113.6 for the season which is second in the entire league, only behind Max Gawn. His recent form is even more impressive with a three-game average of 132.7 and a massive 163 last round against the Saints. Flanders has the consistent form and the ceiling that you want on your team in this one!
