As the bye rounds continue there’s just two games for us on this Sunday’s AFL slate for Round 14. First of all, Collingwood will head across town to Marvel Stadium to take on the Kangaroos who will be up and about following their first win of the season. Can they take that momentum and be competitive against the Pies?
That is followed by an important game for finals chances as the GWS Giants host Port Adelaide at their home ground of ENGIE Stadium.

Weather
Melbourne - Partly cloudy, 13 degrees
Sydney - Sunny, 16 degrees
No issues under the roof at Marvel Stadium, although it will be typically chilly, while the sun should be shining in Sydney. There’s expected heavy rain in Sydney on Friday and Saturday, so it will just be a matter of how soft the ground is for Sunday’s match.
Where to Attack?
As the bottom team in the AFL, it’s no surprise that the Kangaroos give up above average points to opposition forwards. The Roos backline tries hard but they are undermanned, particularly when it comes to handling key marking forwards. The Pies don’t really have a big key forward, and tend to find a lot of goals through their mids and half forwards, so it will be interesting to see if someone can step up in this one.
The Pies biggest leak is to the opposition’s designated kicker. The Roos have a couple of distributors in their backline who enjoy some cheap backline possessions and there should be plenty of ball at their end of the ground to keep them busy.
The Giants and Power are closer to the league average in their weaknesses which makes them harder to exploit. The Power tend to be tough to play against for inside midfielders, but they give up more points on the outside. The Giants have been giving up points in the ruck but Port’s ruck stocks have been a bit of a mess this season. Both teams are restrictive on the opposition’s designated kicker, so there won’t be a lot of free touches down back for either side.
Game script: Collingwood forwards, Kangaroos designated kicker, Port Adelaide ruck
VALUE PLAYS
Finn Macrae ($7,970) has been bursting for a consistent run in the seniors for some time, and he’s starting to show some glimpses of rewarding that faith. Has a 68 last week and a 71 a few weeks earlier, which isn’t a bad return at the cheap price. The interesting stat is that Macrae was used at 61% of CBAs last week which is his biggest for the season - taking mostly away from Beau McCreery. If he gets the same sort of exposure, then he should return value against the lowly Roos.
Nathan Kreuger ($7,750) came back into the Pies side last week and had an immediate impact with 3 goals and a 79 fantasy score against a strong Melbourne defence. The Roos have leaked massive numbers to opposition key forwards all season, so there’s no better matchup for Kreuger to hit the scoreboard.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Connor Rozee ($13,260) returns for the Power and you’d think he should be 100% right to go after missing a game followed by a bye giving him three weeks between matches to recover from injury. After a couple of injury-affected scores, we’re getting a great price for one of the premium players in the league and that’s too good to pass up. Not the best matchup against the Giants, but with four tons (plus a 99) including a high of 133 earlier this season, those are the sorts of numbers we’d love to see from Rozee again.
Zak Fisher ($13,530) enters this match with five tons on the trot, including 115, 112 and 121 in his last three, yet we get a discount on his price from last week! The matchup is a favourable one for the designated kicker against Collingwood and that’s the exact role Fisher has had the last few weeks with Sheezel moving into the midfield and McKercher still sidelined. Last week, Fisher took 10 of the Roos 16 kick-ins and played on every time for a cheap 30 points. Lock and load!
PREMIUM PLAYS
Jack Crisp ($13,810) has been in sublime form with five tons in a row and a six-game average of 112.2. He’s loved getting more responsibility in the midfield in the absence of De Goey, Mitchell and Pendles, and he gets one of the best matchups in the league against the bottom-placed Kangaroos. At under $14k, it’s hard to go past Crisp in your lineups this Sunday!
Luke Davies Uniacke ($13,980) has put in a solid month of form and it’s no coincidence that it has reflected in some better performances from the Kangaroos. LDU has averaged 100.0 over his last six matches, with a high of 114, which is a great return at a sub-14k price tag. Will be left alone to go head-to-head with the Pies midfield and should be able to get plenty of the ball.
