PGA Tour Valspar Championship Betting Tips
The PGA Tour’s Florida Swing concludes this week with the 2024 Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Florida. Known for its demanding layout and challenging closing stretch—dubbed the Snake Pit—this tournament has produced thrilling finishes in recent years. With The Masters looming just a few weeks away, players will look to fine-tune their games against a tough test that demands precision over power.
The Field
While some of the biggest stars are taking the week off, Xander Schauffele headlines the field as the highest-ranked player at No. 5 in the Official World Golf Ranking. He’ll be joined by fellow major winners Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Keegan Bradley, as well as Sam Burns, who has enjoyed great success at Innisbrook with two victories. Tony Finau, Brian Harman, and Cameron Young will also look to contend, along with veteran Ryder Cup captains Luke Donald and Zach Johnson.
Jordan Spieth, who won here in 2015, is among the favorites again after a T3 finish in 2023. Another intriguing storyline is Cameron Young, a highly touted talent still searching for his first PGA Tour win. Akshay Bhatia and Joel Dahmen, both popular names among golf fans, round out a deep field of contenders.
The Valspar Championship has a history of crowning first-time winners, including Taylor Moore (2023) and Adam Hadwin (2017), making it a great opportunity for lesser-known players to break through. With the event serving as a prime warm-up for Augusta, expect competitors to bring their best form as they battle one of the PGA Tour’s most difficult tests.
The Course
The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort is a par-71, 7,340-yard layout that is consistently ranked among the top 10 toughest courses on the PGA Tour. Unlike typical Florida courses, Copperhead features tree-lined fairways, undulating terrain, and five demanding par-3s that require precision shot-making. With a Poa trivialis overseed on the greens, putting conditions will be smoother than typical Bermuda grass setups.
The most iconic stretch of the course is the final three holes—The Snake Pit. The par-4 16th hole, in particular, plays as one of the most difficult holes on Tour, with a tight landing area off the tee and water lurking to the right. Players who can navigate these closing holes without disaster will have the best chance at lifting the trophy on Sunday.
Another key feature is Copperhead’s unusual scorecard. With five par-3s and four par-5s, the course presents a rare balance that rewards strategic play over sheer power. While driving distance isn’t as critical, approach shots and iron play will be crucial, as past champions have excelled in strokes gained: approach and greens in regulation. Expect a winning score somewhere around 10 to 14 under par, depending on weather conditions.
Betting Tips
Tommy Fleetwood ($13/Top 20 $1.80)
Probably one of the first times Fleetwood has been favourite for a PGA Tour tournament in his career but his form at the moment warrants it. Has been on an absolute tear through Europe and the USA over the past few months, rattling off 13 straight finishes to storm into the top 10 ranked players in the world. Has been good in two starts at Copperhead, finishing T16 in 2022 and T3 in 2023.
Lucas Glover ($51/Top 30 $2.40)
The veteran is making an incredible 20th appearance at Copperhead, where he has made the cut 14/19 times so far. Has played eight events this season, racking up three top 25 finishes and is coming off a really impressive T3 at The Players last week.
