PGA Tour Valero Texas Open Betting Tips
San Antonio, Thursday 3rd - Sunday 6th April
With Masters invitations still available for any non-qualified player who wins, the stakes are high. The $9.5 million purse and 500 FedExCup points on offer make this a crucial week for those hoping to secure a last-minute Augusta invite. The Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, designed by Greg Norman with input from Sergio Garcia, is a demanding test that rewards precision, patience, and a strong all-around game.
The Field
This year’s field is led by Ludvig Åberg (World No. 5), who will use the event as preparation for his second career Masters appearance. Other elite players in the field include Hideki Matsuyama (No. 6), Tommy Fleetwood (No. 10), Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, and Sam Burns, all of whom have multiple PGA Tour victories to their name.
Jordan Spieth, the 2021 Texas Open champion and a past Masters winner, is also teeing it up, hoping to build momentum heading into Augusta. Defending champion Akshay Bhatia will return to defend his title after last year’s thrilling playoff victory. Meanwhile, Rickie Fowler, Daniel Berger, and Gary Woodland are among those who have yet to qualify for the Masters, making this a do-or-die week for their Augusta hopes.
The event will also feature several past champions, including Corey Conners, Charley Hoffman, Martin Laird, and Zach Johnson. With a blend of established stars, rising talents, and veterans chasing a last-minute Masters ticket, expect an intense and competitive battle for the trophy.
The Course
The Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, a 7,438-yard, par-72 layout, is known for its tight fairways, deep bunkers, and undulating greens. Accuracy off the tee is a must, as the course punishes errant drives with thick native vegetation and difficult approach shots. The Texas winds also play a key role, often making club selection and ball flight control critical to success.
Signature holes include the par-3 16th, which forces players to carry water to a tricky green, and the par-5 18th, a risk-reward finisher that could decide the tournament on Sunday. Water hazards, strategically placed bunkers, and challenging green complexes make this course one of the more demanding non-major venues on the PGA Tour.
With unpredictable weather conditions and firm, fast greens expected, adaptability will be key. Players who excel in ball-striking and scrambling will have the best chance of contending for the title. The 2025 Valero Texas Open is set to deliver high drama, as players battle for a coveted victory and a potential last-minute ticket to Augusta.
Betting Tips
Jordan Spieth ($28/Top 20 $2.30)
Since making his Valero Texas Open debut in 2014, Jordan Spieth has never missed the cut at TPC San Antonio, going a perfect 6-for-6 in made cuts. His record includes a win in 2021, a solo second-place finish in 2015, and four total top-10s, highlighting his strong affinity for the course. His ability to navigate the tricky Oaks Course has been a key factor in his success, consistently avoiding the hazards that make the layout so challenging. Always seems to go to another level when playing in his home state.
Akshay Bhatia ($25/Top 20 $2.25)
Bhatia has rapidly evolved from a promising young talent into a polished PGA Tour competitor. TPC San Antonio has historically rewarded more experienced professionals, and when Bhatia won here in 2024, he was still proving himself at the highest level. That is no longer the case. His performance in 2025 has been consistently strong, with three top-10 finishes in seven events, including an impressive T3 at The Players Championship. His strokes-gained stats suggest a well-rounded game, with significant improvement in approach play and putting compared to previous seasons. Now firmly established among the Tour’s rising stars, Bhatia has all the tools to mount a successful title defense in Texas.
