PGA Tour: Scottish Open Betting Tips
Renaissance Club, Thursday 11th - Sunday July 14th
With the British Open fast approaching, the Scottish Open is usually a key guard for the major, and as such, it has attracted a world class field, with the headline act clearly being Rory McIlroy, who won the tournament last year by one stroke.
A host of quality players are set to their place, Tommy Fleetwood and Colin Morikawa, both of which will want to impress heading into The Open.
The Field
It's not the deepest field re depth/quality, but there is still some level of star play. As mentioned, the highlighted player is Rory McIlroy, who won the event last year and will want to have a big second half of 2024 after going so close in recent tournaments. He is tournament favourite alongside Xander Schauffele.
There are a host of previous winners set to take their place this week, including Schauffele, MIn Woo Lee and Justin Rose, as well as many others.
The Course
Renaissance Club is an 18 hole course, which has a total distance of 7303 yards (6677 metres). Par for the course is 71 and across the eighteen holes, there are four Par 5's, five Par 3's and nine Par 4's. Traditionally, low scoring is prevalent in this tournament so expect low numbers and a lot of birdies, if conditions are to suit.
Over the last 10 editions of this tournament, -12 or better has been the winning score on eight occasions. Bernd Wiesberger went -22 when winning in 2019, winning via a playoff.
Betting Tips
Aaron Rai ($41/Top 20 $2.50 at Betfair)
This guy is going to be a real threat I feel. He has finished top 20 in his past four outings, with his last three seeing him finish T7 or better, so he's a player heading in the right direction and his accurate ball striking looks to be ideal for this course. He won the tournament in 2020 and looks to be on track to repeat the dose.
Erik Van Rooyen ($81/Top 20 $3.40 at Betfair)
Top 20 on the tour in Strokes gained so the ability is there and he was good recently at Detroit. His overall record in Scotland is poor but he did fire a second round 63 in this tournament last year, so that is the level he is capable of and for mine, he looks a big price.
Tommy Fleetwood ($19/Top 20 $1.83 at Betfair)
Yet to win on the PGA Tour but that doesn't truly reflect the talent and ability he has. He's a contender in pretty much every tournament he takes part in and will be gearing up for a big few weeks with eyes towards The Open. He's nearing that win and it could easily come here.
