PGA Tour: Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Tips
Detroit Golf Club, Thursday 27th - Sunday 30th June
Is golf starting to become boring? Every week we preview these events looking for value outside of Scottie Scheffler, and every week he continues to prove us wrong. The World No.1 won a ridiculous 6th PGA Tour title of the year, with the win on the weekend once again coming in an elevated event.
He’ll opt to take the week off in Detroit this week, meaning someone else will have the chance to hoist a trophy, and with only three of the top 30 teeing it up, the Rocket Mortgage could provide some value.
The Field
While the field this week is a serious drop off in talent compared to the three week stretch we have just been treated to, there are still some top line names heading to Detroit this week. Will Zalatoris, Tom Kim, Rickie Fowler, Daniel Berger, Webb Simpson, Gary Woodland and Cameron Young headline the field.
Past winners of the Rocket Mortgage classic who will be looking to add another trophy to the case this week include Fowler, Cameron Davis and Nate Lashley. The other two winners of the relatively new event, Bryson Dechambeau and Tony Finau, will both be absent.
The Course
The Detroit Golf Club features both North and South courses, with the upcoming Rocket Mortgage Classic primarily utilizing holes from the North Course. This course measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees. Through strategic adjustments including incorporating a few holes from the South Course and adding new tee boxes, organizers have extended the layout to a Par 72, now stretching over 7,300 yards.
Historically, scoring at the Rocket Mortgage Classic has remained consistent, with winners typically posting scores around -22 under par across the three previous editions. This year, scoring will heavily hinge on the rough's severity, while key statistics to watch will focus on shots gained from tee-to-green.
Navigating the greens with the putter isn't overly challenging, but finding them can be tricky, especially for those missing the fairways.
Betting Tips
Akshay Bhatia ($21/Top 20 $2.20 at Betfair)
Had a great result at the Travelers on the weekend, finishing T5 amongst a top tier field to rise to a career best 29th ranking in the world. Has been super consistent recently, making his last four cuts in a row, highlighted by a T16 at the U.S. Open.
Rickie Fowler ($71/Top 40 $2.20 at Betfair)
I think the defending champion deserves a little more respect than the bookies have given him here with the $76 price tag. Hasn’t set the world alight lately, but bounced back for a strong result at the Travelers, finishing T20. Has a strong record in Detroit, making the cut in 4/5 trips there including the win last year.
