PGA Tour: British Open Betting Tips
Royal Troon Club, Thursday 18th - Sunday July 21st
The big guns of the golfing world are in the UK for the second week in a row, where a high class field will do battle for the 152nd edition of the oldest Golf tournament in the world, The Open, with the best of the best stepping out in search of major glory.
A host of quality players are set to their place, headlined by Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.
The Field
It's as good as you'll see with quality of the field. The best of the best are going to be out on display, where most pundits expecting Scottie Scheffler to be the man to beat, but locals will be cheering hard for the Irishman, McIlroy. Cameron Smith is back to win his second Open championship and of course, it will be fascinating to see how Tiger Woods goes.
The Course
The Royal Troon Club is an 18 hole course, which has a total distance of 6632 yards (6064 metres). Par for the course is 71 and across the eighteen holes, there are three Par 5's, four Par 3's and eleven Par 4's. It can be a tricky course to score, especially with weather conditions, but Henrik Stenson defied that in 2016 when winning, shooting -20.
Prior to 2016, the last time The Open was played here was 2004, won by Todd Hamilton at -10.
Betting Tips
Tony Finau ($41/Top 20 $2.40) at Betfair
Very consistent without winning. He has finished top 20 in his past five tournaments, notably a tie for third in the US Open. He has been hot and cold when it comes to The Open, missing the cut, but in terms of strokes gained over the past 3-4 years, his form at The Open is one of the top players. I feel he is knocking on the door to win a big one and he gets his chance here.
Ludvig Aberg ($17/Top 20 $1.57) at Betfair
Top 5 finishes in The Scottish Open, Masters and The Memorial underlines how well this guy is going and looks ready to cause some damage this week. The Swede has open stated that fellow Swede Henrik Stenson and his win in 2016 is a big inspiration for him and his game, so he'd love to win The Open at the same course Stenson saluted in back in 2016. He is an aggressive player, especially when in the hunt.
Xander Schauffele ($13/Top 20 $1.50) at Betfair
Greens in regulation is vital when it comes to Royal Troon and one of the best at that on the PGA Tour, as well as scrambling, is this guy. Just one win this year, but it was the PGA Championship in outstanding fashion. 11 Top 10 finishes in 16 tournaments this year, he's consistently very good and the way he can get out of trouble is going to suit this course.
