It's been a great week of racing at Royal Ascot this week as we welcome the final day of the carnival on Saturday. We're hoping to end the week with a bang with Chris Waller looking to land another victory for Australia with Home Affairs the favourite in race 4 tonight. You'll have to grab some coffee if you want to watch, with the race at 1:20am AEST.
Once again, UK-based Tips4Punters are here to share their local knowledge with their preview and racing tips for every race of Royal Ascot Day 5 below!
2022 Royal Ascot Betting Tips - Day 5
Race 1 - Chesham Stakes (Listed) - 11:30pm AEST
We come to the last day of Royal Ascot 2022. What a week of horse racing we have had. Ballydoyle had a great day yesterday at Royal Ascot with 2 wins and they run Alfred Munnings in the opener who has a big chance. I like FAISAL ROAD in this for John and Thady Gosden (yard had a winner yesterday in the Coronation Stakes). He won on debut by a neck at Yarmouth with a Godolphin fav in 2nd and Finn’s Charm (who runs in this) in 3rd. The Godolphin fav that day Changing Colours has gone on to win at my local track Haydock Park and Finn’s Charm also won his last start at Musselburgh. Faisal Road steps up to 7f today and surely more to come. Of course, the forementioned Finn’s Charm is a danger to him. The other runner for the Gosden’s One World also deserves a mention. Sneaky mention for Irish trained Crypto Force who is running for owners Amo Racing and Omnihorse Racing.
Race 2 - Jersey Stakes (Group 3) - 12:05am AEST
I like a few in this including German trained runner Rocchigiani (recently come 2nd in the German 2000 Guineas – beaten by Maljoom who went close in the St James’ Palace S. this week). Samburu is putting his unbeaten record on the line (1-11) and could well remain unbeaten with cheekpieces on. Frankie Dettori rides. Henry de Bromhead sends over Star Girls Aalmal from Ireland, recent 4th in the Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh. One of 3 fillies in the field (the others being Hello You and Mise Le Meas) and she could beat the boys today. DUBAWI LEGEND is the pick in this race. Dropping in grade (been running in Group 1’s) and trip could see him excel for trainer Hugo Palmer. Coming 2nd to classy Godolphin horse Native Trail in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket last October is the highlight of his CV. At bigger odds the French raider Toimy Son could be worth an each-way go.
Race 3 - Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2) - 12:40am AEST
Big chance for the boys in blue, Godolphin. HURRICANE LANE looks to have a big chance in this. 3rd in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on his last start. Has won the Group 1 Irish Derby at the Curragh, the Group 1 St Leger at Doncaster and in between them the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp. Highly rated. Should be winning this. His dangers include Broome for Aidan O’Brien and Mostahdaf for John and Thady Gosden.
Race 4 - Platinum Jubilee Stakes (Group 1) - 1:20am AEST
Trainer Chris Waller has already had a big winner this week with Nature Strip and he runs class sprinter HOME AFFAIRS in this. His last race was disappointing, coming 9th in a Group 1 at Flemington in March but before this race he held on to beat Nature Strip in another Group 1 at Flemington and not just any old Group 1, the Black Caviar Lightning won by some very classy horses in the past including Black Caviar of course and Nature Strip did in fact when this race in 2021. J-Mac (James McDonald) rides and he surely has a massive chance for Australia and is the pick. It’s not been a good week for US trainer Wesley Ward, could this change with Campanelle who has had success at the Royal Meeting previously (Queen Mary – 2020 and Commonwealth Cup – 2021). Minzaal looks to have a serious chance for trainer Owen Burrows. Sacred gets a mention too and for big each-way odds, perhaps look at Glen Shiel and Great Ambassador to sneak a place.
Race 5 - Wokingham Stakes - 2:00am AEST
French runner Prince Lancelot arrives looking for a hattrick after wins at Chantilly. I like FRESH in this who was actually runner up in this race last year. Second time lucky? His trainer James Fanshawe will hope so. Another with a big chance is the Botti trained Silver Samurai, another going for a hattrick. Will he cut them down? Mentions for Blackrod and First Folio.
Race 6 - Golden Gates Stakes - 2:35am AEST
We could see another winner for Godolphin as they run FALLING SHADOW. Winning a Newbury maiden race nicely in May before this was DQ’d (prohibited substance) in a race at Wolverhampton on the All Weather which he won well. Goes handicapping and will go very well, I think. Honiton looks a danger with Frankie Dettori onboard. Has some good placed form against nice horses namely Eldar Eldarov (won the Queen's Vase this week), My Prospero (3rd in the St James's Palace Stakes this week) and Thesis (won the Britannia Stakes yesterday). Solid chance. Sun King for Aidan O’Brien gets a mention.
Race 7 - Queen Alexandra Stakes - 3:10am AEST
Trueshan likes the ground a bit softer but still has a good chance in this for Hollie Doyle and Alan King. The Irish have 2 big fancies, Wordsworth goes for Aidan O’Brien although he will need to stay the extra distance, max distance he has ran over is 2 miles, this race is 2m 5f 143y. Think he’ll be ok though and could go close for Team Ballydoyle. The other Irish contender is Dermot Weld’s FALCON EIGHT, winner of the Chester Cup at the Chester May Festival back in 2021. Coming 5th in the latest renewal of it this year. He ran a stinker in the Queen Alexandra S. last year but an excuse for that could have been the ground (soft, heavy in places that day) with his trainer suggesting this was the case. Fancy him to make amends today.
