It’s a bit of a quieter week in the PGA Tour this week as we head to Port Royal Golf Club in Southampton on the island of Bermuda for the annual Bermuda Championship. As usual, we have you covered with a full preview and betting tips for the action below.
Bermuda Championship Betting Tips
The PGA Tour has been a pretty exclusive affair across the last few weeks with limited field, no cut invitationals at both the CJ Cup and ZOZO Championship. The tour returns to its normal scheduling this week, albeit for a pretty slim $4,000,000 purse on the island of Bermuda.
The Field
Two pretty big tournaments in the last two weeks combined with a small purse and a long trip to Bermuda has scared some of the higher profile players away from this tournament, leaving us with pretty slim pickings in terms of star power. Some of the key names in the field include youngster Will Zalatoris, Brendon Todd, Harold Varner, Doc Redman, Charley Hoffman and Henrik Stenson.
Todd is the only former winner of the Bermuda Championship, as the tournament was initialised in 2019. It was Todd’s first of two wins in the 2019 season, and he’ll be looking to go back to back in what is no doubt a very winnable tournament for him.
The Course
Port Royal Golf Club in Southampton, Bermuda was designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened back in 1970. The course underwent a $15 million renovation in 2009 to get it up to PGA Tour standards and the championship course plays a 6,828 yard, Par 71.
It is one of the shortest courses on the PGA Tour, so distance off the tee certainly won’t be a factor this weekend.
Prediction
Have to like the look of the defending champion Brendon Todd this weekend. The veteran was one of the shortest drivers on tour last season, averaging just over 280 yards per drive, however, he ranked fourth overall in driving accuracy, hitting over 71% of fairways, with only Jim Furyk, Ryan Armour and Brian Stuard hitting a higher percentage. Todd won the tournament by four strokes last season, hitting almost 70% of fairways and is coming off three straight made cuts at the U.S. Open, CJ Cup and ZOZO Championship.
