It’s NRL Magic Round which means we are treated to a rare triple header of games for our Sunday afternoon. The weekend up in Brisbane has been brilliant so far and there is no shortage of quality on display across the three games today as well.
The Warriors will take on the Eels in the early game, followed by Storm versus Dragons and then we round the day out with the Titans taking on the Panthers.
NRL Round 10 Sunday Betting Tips
Warriors vs Eels
The big storyline leading into this match is the reshuffle to the Eels backline, following a couple of key suspensions. Jakob Arthur makes his NRL debut at five-eighth while Waqa Blake returns from injury in the centres. The Eels continued their strong start to the season with a good win over the Roosters last week and will be boosted by the return of Nathan Brown today.
The Warriors continue to be the hardest team in the competition to work out, putting together a strong win followed by a bad loss throughout most of the season. They were beaten in a high scoring affair by Manly last week and their defence will need to lift if they are a chance today against one of the more free flowing attacks in the competition.
Verdict
Finding it pretty hard to be against the Eels here, even missing Dylan Brown the squad they can put on paper is one of the best in the league. Mitchell Moses has been in top form and should direct his side around the park, with rookie Arthur to play the supporting role. Parramatta has scored 144 points in their last 4 matches and now face a side who has been leaking points consistently every week.
The Warriors will be up against it here and have just struggled for consistency all season. They aren’t getting enough out of their forward pakc and in turn, it is hurting their halves ability to create chances. The big issue is the defence however and if they allowed 38 from Manly, who knows how many the Eels might score?
Storm vs Dragons
The Storm head into this off the back of one the best performances we’ve seen all season, knocking off the Rabbitohs in a 50-0 drubbing. Josh Addo Carr made history becoming the first player to score six tries in a single match. It was another quality all round performance from the competition front-runners and while they do have a few players missing, this looks another very winnable match for them.
The Dragons had a confidence-boosting win over the struggling Bulldogs and it was very much needed, with their season hanging in the balance at the moment. This is a big step up today however, and they’ll need to go to another level again to be a chance against the ruthless Storm.
Verdict
While the Storm look the clear obvious team to beat, I am a bit wary of their depleted squad at the moment. Missing the likes of Munster, Grant, Smith and also Papenhuyzen who is no certainty to play, does open the door for the Dragons. The Storm have scored 40+ points in four of their last five matches and the Dragons are no strangers to strolling over the try line themselves.
Think the points line is the safest way to play this one, in what should be perfect conditions for free-flowing footy. Magic Round has always brought the best out of attacking teams and I think while the Storm should be winning, playing the overs line looks the best value and saftest pick for the match.
Titans vs Panthers
This looks a very tough match for the Titans as they come up against the best side in the competition this season in the Panthers. It’s no secret that Penrith are the team to beat and are still yet to taste defeat this season. In fact, they hve won 26 of their last 27 matches spanning across last season to now. The Panthers will be without Kurt Capewell but otherwise lineup as normal as they look to go 10-0.
The Titans were tough winners last week over the Tigers and have no issue scoring points, but their defence just hasn’t stood up this season. They will be without David Fifita today in a big loss for their side while Tanah Boyd retains his spot at five eighth.
Verdict
Penrith have unbelievably only conceded 60 points this whole season, with their defence almost impossible to get past. 16 points is the most they’ve conceded in one match and they look very likely to be winning here again this evening. They have only lost once in 27 matches and the Titans are as inconsistent as they come. Pretty certain Penrith will get the job done, with plenty of points scored as well.
