The final game to commence on Super Saturday in Round 8 of the AFL will see the Power hosting the Crows in the first Adelaide Showdown of the year! As usual, PuntingInDanger has a full preview and betting tips for the clash below.
AFL Port Adelaide vs Adelaide Betting Tips
Adelaide Oval, Saturday 8th May 7.40pm (AEST)
One of the best rivalries in the AFL will get another instalment on Saturday night as the Adelaide Showdown takes place for the first of two times this season. The two teams might be at different ends of the ladder but the rivalry will no doubt still be at fever pitch.
Match Prediction
The Power were 5-1 and flying when they travelled to Brisbane on the weekend but their troubles away from home continued as they were beaten by 39 points at the Gabba. Thankfully, they’ll be back at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, where they are 3-0 so far this season with an average winning margin of 36.6 points.
The Crows were decimated by the Giants in Round 7, going down by 67 points at Adelaide Oval to fall to 3-4 on the season and lose their third straight game. The road doesn’t get much easier for the Crows, who will face West Coast in Perth, followed by games against Melbourne and Richmond in the three weeks following this game.
Availability of some key players including skipper Rory Sloane are the big question marks for the Crows, while for the Power, they’ll still be without star youngsters Zak Butters, Xavier Duursma as well as veteran midfielder Tom Rockliff. Apart from those three players, the Power have basically a full strength side, so they should be extremely confident coming into one of their biggest games of the year.
Struggling to see a way in which the Power can lose this one, especially given the fact that they wil be desperate to bounce back after a tough loss in Brisbane last week. If the past few Showdowns have been anything to go by, the 29.5 line might not be enough for the Crows either. The Power have won their last two games against Adelaide by 57 and 75 points. I think they win this one comfortably against a Crows side that seems to have fallen away dramatically after a solid start to the season.

Power Prop
It’s going to be a little bit rainy on Saturday in Adelaide but it is expected to dry up by the time the game starts. With the ball being a little slick early in the game, I love the look of Robbie Gray to find the scoreboard a few times. He is one of the cleanest players in the league and the rain doesn’t seem to affect him a lot. At $2.20, I like his odds to have his third multiple goal performance of the year.
Crows Prop
I’ve loved watching Rory Laird transform himself into an elite midfielder so far this season. He dabbled in the midfield late last year but since the start of the season he has played almost exclusively in the guts for the Crows, and he is still racking up big numbers. He averages 28.9 touches per game this season and already has three games with 30+ and zero with under 25. Back him to have 30+ at good odds on Saturday night.
