How good are five game Saturday slates in the AFL?! Round 7 boasts another monster slate on Saturday with the games getting underway at 1.45pm as the Pies take on the Suns. As usual, PuntingInDanger has a full preview and betting tips for the clash below.
AFL Collingwood vs Gold Coast Betting Tips
MCG, Saturday 1st May 1.45pm (AEST)
The Pies sit in 17th place on the AFL ladder and desperately need a win after they went down to the Bombers on ANZAC Day last week. The Suns are coming off a win and can jump into top eight contention with another on Saturday.
Match Prediction
What an interesting clash between two sides that have struggled to date this season. The Pies are 1-5 but have been really competitive against a bunch of good teams so far in 2021. They went down by just 16 points to the Bulldogs, 1 point to the Lions and 27 points to the Eagles over in Perth in what was a competitive game until three quarter time. They are a better team than their 1-5 record suggests and they will start as 11.5 point favourites at the MCG on Saturday.
The Suns are coming off easily their best performance of the year after they downed the Swans in a massive upset at Metricon Stadium in Round 6. They jumped out to four goal lead in the second quarter and never looked back, winning by 40 points to move to 2-4 on the season.
The Suns are battling a long list of injuries at the moment including their captain Jarros Witts, along with the likes of Conor Budarick, Sam Day, Matt Rowell, Jacob Townsend and Rory Thompson, who are all out for extended periods of time. Just a few weeks ago, the Pies had one of the best injury lists in the league but over their last few games they have suffered injuries to Taylor Adams, Jamie Elliot, Jeremy Howe, Jordan De Goey and Mason Cox. De Goey and Cox
Really tough game to call here. The Pies have probably been the better of the two sides this season despite their worse record. Outside of their performance against the Swans on the weekend, the Suns have been pretty poor, beating only the bottom of the ladder Kangaroos and losing games to West Coast, Adelaide, Carlton and the Western Bulldogs.
The Pies are the hungrier dog here, absolutely desperate for a win and so often this season the hungrier dog has been the one that runs faster. They are at home and I think they win this one in a close game. Not super confident on it though, so it’s just a 0.5 unit play from me.

Jack Crisp has been at his accumulating best so far this season and will get plenty of run in the midfield again on the weekend with Taylor Adams still on the sidelines. Crisp has racked up 30+ possessions in four of six games so far this season and has had 32 and 30 in the two games without Adams in the line-up. Back him to pass the 30 mark again this week.

Brandon Ellis started the season slow with just 19 touches in Round 1 against the Eagles, since then he has been on fire. In his next five games, he has racked up numbers of 33, 25, 26, 26 and 24 and he is still $2.00 to rack up 25 touches on the weekend. Great odds for someone who has achieved the feat in four of his last five games.
