The Suns vs Hawks game in Round 11 of the AFL was on, then it was off, now it’s back on! The two teams will do battle from the SCG at 7.40pm and as always, PuntingInDanger has you covered with his betting tips below.
AFL Gold Coast vs Hawthorn Betting Tips
MCG, Saturday 7.40pm (AEST)
Due to the COVID outbreaks in both Queensland and Victoria, this was the danger game of the weekend and was originally going to be postponed after Victoria went into a snap lockdown. However, the AFL stepped up and allowed the game to be played in NSW, meaning it will go ahead on Saturday night.
Match Prediction
Don’t really have many positive things to say about either of these teams. The Hawks have openly stated that they are in rebuild mode, and currently sit in 17th place on the AFL ladder with just 2 wins and 8 losses this season. They were comfortably defeated by the Blues in Round 10, marking their fourth straight loss. The clash against the Suns on Saturday night could be their last real chance for a win in a while, with games against Sydney, Essendon, GWS and Port Adelaide to come over the next month.
Gold Coast have been competitive in a bunch of games this year, but ultimately, it’s been tough for them to combat their extensive injury list. They have 10+ of their best 22 out at the moment, including the likes of captain Jarrod Witts, star midfielder Matt Rowell and talented youngsters Jack Bowes and Connor Budarick.
The Suns start as 13.5 point favourites here, which isn’t surprising given the Hawks form of late, which included an embarrassing loss to the Kangaroos back in Round 9. I don’t really like either side at the 13.5 point line but I do fancy the unders here. The line currently sits at 155.5 points and while six of the last seven Hawks games have cleared that line, only one of the last four Suns games have.
The main reason I’m interested in the under, however, is the amount of rain that is about Sydney on Saturday night. They are expected to get a fair bit throughout the day culminating in showers at game time as well. Neither of these teams are skilled enough to put high scores on the board in wet weather.

Harry Morrison has been solid for the Hawks of late, passing the 15 disposal barrier in his last four games in a row and 9 of his 10 games this season. I have always rated David Swallow as a good wet weather player and he gets another opportunity to show his skills in the slop Saturday night. He has had 20+ in his last three games and 7 of his 10 this season. Touk Miller to get 25+ will just push us over the $2.00 barrier. The midfielder has surpassed 25 in 2 of his last three games and should be around the footy plenty with the extra stoppages in the wet.
