AFL Western Bulldogs vs St Kilda Betting Tips

Marvel Stadium, Saturday 22nd May 7.25pm (AEST)

The Dogs and Saints played out a thrilling final last season in which St Kilda just got over the line. Will this be a repeat or will the Dogs capitalise on their brilliant form of late?

Match Prediction

The Bulldogs train rolled on in Round 9 as they travelled to Adelaide and beat the Power by 19 points to move to 8-1 on the season. They now sit four points clear in 2nd place on the ladder and if they can get through this week with a win, it will set up an exciting top of the table clash with Melbourne next week.

After disappointing losses to Richmond and Port Adeliade, the Saints bounced back with solid wins over the Hawks and Suns. It looked as though their form would continue in Round 9 as they came out of the blocks firing against the Cats, however, they failed to make the most of their chances, kicking 5.17 on 22 scoring shots to lose by just 21 points at Marvel Stadium.

It was a bitter loss for the Saints and to make matters worse, they lost Rowan Marshall to injury, who has been arguably their most important player this season. Marshall will join the likes of Jade Gresham, Ben Paton and Dan Hannebery on the sidelines, although Dean Kent, Jake Carlisle and co-captain Jarryn Geary could all be in line for a return from injury this week.

The Bulldogs are still without Josh Dunkley, Stefan Martin, ,Toby McLean, Lin Jong, Ed Richards and Easton Wood but could get ruckman Tim English and midfielder Lachie Hunter back from injury this week.

The Doggies start as firm 23.5 point favourites at Marvel Stadium and it’s hard not to like them against a Saints side that has been absolutely belted by teams that are clearly outmatched against this season. The Saints have already lost games by 54, 86 and 75 to Port Adelaide, Richmond and Essendon this season, and the Dogs have made a habit of blowing out teams through nine games so far. The Dogs average winning margin through their eight wins so far is a very healthy 38.25 points. I think they get on top of the Saints here, especially without Rowan Marshall in the

The Saints were able to beat the Bulldogs in the finals last season largely on the back of their dual ruck setup with Marshall and Paddy Ryder dominating the game. Without Marshall, I think the Saints really struggle here. They are 3-2 with Marshall in the line-up this season and 1-3 without him.

Brad Crouch has been on a tear for the Saints over the last three games. He has racked up 32, 30 and 28 over that span, largely on the back of the absence of Zak Jones. Bailey Dale had just 16 and 17 touches in his first two games of the season but has since passed the 20 disposal mark in his last seven games straight. He was described by Luke Beveridge as the best kick in the team alongside Caleb Daniel, so it’s no surprise that he takes the kick outs and gets handball receives from teammates at every opportunity. Adam Treloar has played every game for the Bulldogs this season and has failed to surpass the 25 disposal mark just twice. He is an elite ball winner, even in this star studded midfield and is good value once again to have 25+.
