The Demons had some shaky moments against the Blues in Round 9 but their train rolled on, capturing a 26 point win to move to 9-0 on the season and sit a game clear atop the AFL ladder. If there’s one slight knock on the Demons season so far, it’s that they have only been truly tested twice. They secured fantastic wins over the Tigers and Geelong at the MCG, but apart from that, it’s been relative cruise control.
The real test will come in the weeks following the clash against Adelaide, when they take on the Western Bulldogs and the Brisbane Lions in back to back weeks. If they are 12-0 after that, they are no doubt deserved premiership favourites.
The Crows started the season 3-1 but have since lost their last five games on the trot. They were gallant for stretches in their clash against the Eagles on the weekend but ultimately went down by 30 points. The Crows are the biggest ‘meh’ team in the league at the moment. They are one year into a five year rebuild so won’t be challenging much, and they don’t really have any exciting players that you tune in to watch specifically.
The Demons should win this one on the road, but the hefty 32.5 point line is a tough one to call at Adelaide Oval. The Crows have lost three of their five games at Adelaide Oval this season and those three losses have come by an average margin of 42.6 points. However, the Demons haven’t really blown many teams out this season, with their nine wins coming at an average of just 27.5 points.
I’m staying away from that line and opting for the over instead. In the last seven games between these two teams, an average of 178.28 points scored, and that is including the game with shortened quarters from last year that resulted in just 125. Six of the nine Adelaide games have gone over the 165 point mark this season.
