The Tennis U.S. Open will go ahead as planned and kicks off on early Tuesday morning (AEST)! There are a bunch of big names in both the men’s and women’s draw that have opted out of the tournament, but there’s still plenty of top-end talent set to compete. Here, we take you through our best bets for the tournament and wish you all the best of luck if following. Let’s get stuck into it!
2020 US Open Betting Tips
Men’s Outright
Headlining the major outs in the men’s draw are Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal - arguably the two greatest players of all time. The pair have won 39 Grand Slam titles between them, which obviously means there’s an opportunity for someone else to step up and stake their claim.
Novak Djokovic is the clear favourite in the betting market at $1.80 - you can get $6 or better about the rest. The ‘Joker’ might look like the obvious pick here because he doesn’t have to compete with Federer or Nadal, but we’re expecting some strange results under these circumstances , which means taking an odds-on favourite to win seven straight matches is nearly impossible. For that reason, coupled with the fact that the US Open is Djokovic‘s second least successful Grand Slam, means we’re more than happy to back the field here.
If you’re looking for a value play in the men’s outright market, then Daniil Medvedev looks the pick of the bunch. He was the runner-up at the US Open in 2019 and will get a kind draw from his #3 seeding. Medvedev has teased as the next ‘big thing’ in tennis over the past 12 months and won’t get a better opportunity than this to breakthrough with a GS win.
Value: Daniil Medvedev ($6.00)

Women’s Outright
It’s been a tough job for organisers of the women’s draw with so many top players opting out of the tournament. Six of the top 10 ranked female players won’t take part at Flushing Meadows, which leaves the door wide open for a first time winner, or even a 24th GS title for Serena Williams, which would tie her with Margaret Court for the most GS titles in tennis history.
Like usual, the women’s draw is a lot more of an open playing field compared to the men’s, which is reflected in the betting market. Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka are tied for favouritism at a $6 qoute, and Karolina Pliskova ($9) is the only other single figure hope.
It’s always a tough job picking a GS winner in the women’s draw and these unprecedented times have only made it tougher. That aside, we do really like the price of either Naomi Osaka or Sofia Kenin to win the title. Osaka is a former US Open winner and has been in some great touch at the Cincinnati Masters where she’s progressed through to the final at the time of writing. On the other hand, Kenin was a dominant winner of the Australian Open earlier this year in a huge breakthrough tournament. You can get $4.50 for either to win in the ‘Double Chance’ market at Sportsbet.
