It feels like only yesterday that we were crowning Rory McIlroy with the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup title but the new PGA Tour season is already upon us! The 2020 PGA Tour season kicks off this Thursday with the annual Military Tribute at the Greenbrier in West Virginia.
We have a full preview and betting tips for the event below.
Military Tribute at the Greenbrier Betting Tips
Formerly known as the Greenbrier Classic, the event has had some high profile winners dating back to its inception in 2010. Australian Stuart Appleby took out the innaugral event and other winners include Angel Cabrera, Xander Schauffele and Kevin Na.
The Field
The Field for the Greenbrier this season wont blow your socks off, but it is defeintely solid considering we are just a few weeks removed from the end of the 2019 season. Bryson Dechambeau is the only player ranked inside the top 10 to be competing this season, however, there are a bunch of other high profile names on the card.
Talented youngsters Viktor Hovland and Joaquin Niemann will be hunting their first PGA Tour titles while some older heads in the likes of Bubba Watson, Marc Leishman and defending champion Kevin Na should also be in the mix.
The Course
The Old White TPC at The Greenbrier will play host to the tournament once again this season and should offer players a fairly comfortable start to the season. The Charles Blair McDonald course was first opened in 1914 and features a pretty easy challenge from tee to green most years.
The one aspect that has played a big part in deciding the winner of the Greensbrier throughout the last few years has been putting. The greens at Greensbrier are tricky but pure and usually the player who’s short stick is dialled in will walk away with the trophy. We’ll be targeting strong putters this week.
Prediction
The defending champion really stands out for us this week. Kevin Na finished the 2019 season as the 11th ranked putter in shots gained on the PGA Tour and obviously knows the greens extremely well after topping the putting charts and walking away with the trophy two years ago. At $41 to win and $2.40 for a top 20 finish, we think the American is fantastic value here.
Another player we are liking for value this week is 24-year-old Beau Hossler. Hossler was one of the standout putters on tour last season ranking in the top 20 for shots gained and total putting. While he failed to make the cut for the FedEx Cup playoffs, he had some strong results towards the backend of the season.
