We’re in the final week of what has been the most unique AFL season of all time. To their credit, the AFL have managed to navigate their way through the season which will culminate in the Grand Final next Saturday night.
Before that, we have football’s night of nights, the 2020 Brownlow Medal, which will be held on Sunday night. It will look a little different to previous editions of the Brownlow, with red carpets replaced by zoom calls as the first ever virtual Brownlow Medal count takes place. Regardless of the semantics, at the end of the night, one player will be awarded the 2020 Brownlow Medal.
Throughout the year, we’ve provided our Brownlow vote projections and predictions for every game of every round of the 2020 AFL season. Our voting system, links to every round and final count can be found on the link below:
For us, it looks unlikely that Lachie Neale is going to be challenged in the race for “Charlie”. We have Neale eight votes clear of his nearest rivals in Travis Boak and Jack Steele. Neale has had a dominant season from the get-go and we have him finishing comfortably in front. Interestingly, if you followed our betting advice from way back in Round 2, you should be in great shape coming into Brownlow Medal night:
We’re on Lachie Neale at $14 at Betfair and he’s now an overwhelming favourite at just $1.25 at most sportsbooks. Cha-Ching!!! If something CRAZY happens, then hopefully you also jumped on value picks of Boak and Petracca that we suggested around $51. They are now the second and third favourite in the Brownlow betting markets, so you're in a very profitable position! And while we missed with Jack Billings, we did sniff out that the Saints were on the rise, but it would be Jack Steele who would have a breakout season as he enters the count at fourth favourite.
If you’re looking for some other wagers on Brownlow night then here’s some links you may find useful:
Remember that the Brownlow betting markets tend to move quickly, so some of these priced may have gone, but you may still be able to sniff out some value. More markets are released all the way up until the start of the count so keep a close eye out on Sunday.
Brownlow Live Trading
Some punters like to live trade the Brownlow during the count. That might be a little difficult with Neale such a huge favourite, especially after he jumps out to an early lead. However keep an eye out for a period starting in around Round 12 where Petracca, Boak and Steele start to poll well while Neale has some quiet games. If it’s closer than expected then perhaps some good trading positions may emerge if Neale's price starts to drift.
Once again we’ll be live tweeting Brownlow Medal night from our @Before_You_Bet Twitter account. We’ll provide our feedback on how the voting went each round and how players are tracking throughout the count based on our projections.
We hope you enjoy the count and we expect it to be another profitable night for our Brownlow team!
