AFL 2020 Player Medals Betting Tips
Brownlow Medal
Always one of the toughest markets to predict before the commencement of the season, but also one of the most exciting to have a play on at big odds. Last year’s winner in Nat Fyfe is amongst the favourites ($7.50) and for good reason; he showed he can win it without much team success, although he’s a little too short for how we see the Dockers fairing this season. Our pick comes from the Bulldogs superstar in Marcus Bontempelli who is getting better with every season he plays, which is scary considering he is still just 24 and not at his peak. Unlike last season, we expect the Dogs to get off to a much better start in the win/loss column, which is big for the Bont who delivers a lot of Best on Ground performances. We see his odds ($13) as a steal and are very happy to have a play on him as a result.

Coleman Medal
Another tough market, although it is a lot narrower than the Brownlow, so it’s a decent one to have a crack it. Last year’s winner was Jeremy Cameron (GWS Giants) who came home with a wet sail to finish with 67 goals, nudging out Ben Brown (North Melbourne, 64) who led with one game to come. We’re going away from these two guys and are backing in Josh J. Kennedy (West Coast Eagles) who looks primed for a fantastic season. He’s already a 2x winner of the Coleman Medal (2015, 16), which shows he has plenty of goals in him if given the service. The Eagles are picked by many to finish in the top four this season and by all reports Kennedy has had a full pre-season, which he hasn’t had for a couple of years now, so he looks the goods at really nice odds.

Rising Star
Everyone usually has a decent idea of the highly touted rookies coming into the season and the 2020 crop is no exception. Last year the runaway winner was the early favourite in Sam Walsh who was a cut above the rest from day one and finished the easy champ of this award. This year there is another highly touted number one pick by the name of Matthew Rowell (Gold Coast Suns) who looks like he has all the tools to follow in Walsh’s footsteps. Rowell broke the record for the highest average ranking points in last year’s NAB competition (170 ppg) and he’s an absolute lock to get big minutes in the Suns midfield from day one. He impressed in both of his Marsh Community Series games and if he can play at least 15 games this season, then we see him getting the chocolates here.
