2020 AFL Brownlow Medal Votes Round 13

August 25th 2020, 3:47pm, By: Brownlow Bandit

AFL Brownlow Votes Round 13

A touch of normality was restored for Round 13 with a typical Friday to Monday schedule and teams enjoying the luxury of more than four days' rest between matches! With Brownlow Medal favourite Lachie Neale well held and out of the votes, it will be a very interesting round to count on Brownlow night. Travis Boak and Jack Steele look certain to poll votes and close the gap on our runaway leader. Let's take a closer look at the matches from the weekend with our Round 13 Brownlow vote predictions.

Our Brownlow Medal predictions and rolling Brownlow Medal tracker allow you to keep an eye on the Brownlow betting markets throughout the season, so that you can build a green book so that by the time the 2020 Brownlow Medal night rolls around we’re assured of a profit!

You’ll be able to stay up to date with our live 2020 Brownlow Medal leaderboard, while there will be links to round-by-round voting posted there.

For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote predictor system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.

Round 13 Brownlow Medal Votes

It was the Indigenous Round and there were some great performances that are sure to attract votes on Brownlow Medal night. The gap is likely to close on runaway leader Lachie Neale with Travis Boak, Marcus Bontempelli, Dusty Martin and Jack Steele all set to be in the Brownlow votes. Read on for our Round 13 Brownlow vote predictions!

Gold Coast 4.3.27 def by Carlton 7.18.60

Carlton were wasteful in front of goal but were far too strong for a tired Gold Coast outfit. Marc Murphy rolled back the years with 28 disposals and 5 clearances to be best with Patrick Cripps (23 disposals, 6 tackles, 8 clearances), Will Setterfield (23 disposals, 5 tackles, 5 clearances) and Michael Gibbons (19 disposals, 5 tackles, 2 goals) all influential. Jack Lukosius was again best for the Suns with 23 disposals and 6 marks. Not a lot of confidence with minor votes which could potentially go a number of ways.

Marc Murphy – 3
Patrick Cripps – 1
Will Setterfield – 1
Michael Gibbons – 1

Western Bulldogs 12.8.80 def Melbourne 7.10.52

The Bulldogs ran hard and were too strong for the Demons to take their spot in the top 8. Another tricky game for Brownlow votes with no clear stand out but Marcus Bontempelli has a habit of overpolling so he’ll be right in it for his 22 disposals, 5 tackles and 1 goal. Jack Macrae (26 disposals, 8 tackles, 5 clearances) and Lachie Hunter (24 disposals, 8 marks) were both prolific, while Bailey Williams (19 disposals, 1 goal) was busy down back. In the votes is also likely to be Mitch Wallis who was the best forward with 4 goals from 11 disposals.

Marcus Bontempelli – 2
Mitch Wallis – 2
Jack Macrae – 1
Lachie Hunter - 1

Port Adelaide 9.14.68 def Hawthorn 9.4.58

The Power got a huge scare from an undermanned Hawks team, but they held on to win by just ten points. Travis Boak continues to be a Brownlow contender with his 34 disposals, 6 tackles and 9 clearances worthy of another three votes. Tom Rockliff (28 disposals, 6 tackles) and Sam Powell-Pepper ( 21 disposals, 7 tackles) were also busy. Tom Mitchell (25 disposals, 11 tackles, 5 clearances) and James Worpel (26 disposals) were best for the Hawks.

Travis Boak – 3
Tom Rockliff – 2
James Worpel – 0.5
Sam Powell-Pepper – 0.5

Essendon 10.1.61 def by Richmond 10.13.73

Dreamtime in Darwin was a spectacular event and the Tigers deserved the win. Dusty Martin will be hard to top for the three votes for his 30 disposals, 7 clearances, 1 goal and 9 score involvements. However youngster Shai Bolton was awarded the Yiooken Award for his 29 disposals, 5 clearances and 1 goal. The minor vote will most likely go to Zach Merrett (34 disposals, 8 marks, 5 clearances) while Devon Smith (27 disposals) was also good.

Dusty Martin – 2.5
Shai Bolton – 2.5
Zach Merrett - 1

Fremantle 7.8.50 def Sydney 2.7.19

It was a bit of a slog but Freo did the job to claim the points over the Swans. Luke Ryan won the award for best afield for his 26 disposals and 5 marks across half-back, while in the midfield it was Andrew Brayshaw (26 disposals, 7 tackles), David Mundy (22 disposals, 1 goal) and Caleb Serong (20 disposals, 5 tackles) who did the damage. Their work was finished by Matt Taberner who kicked 2 goals from his 12 disposals and 9 marks. Jake Lloyd picked up 28 disposals and 7 marks for the Swans.

Luke Ryan – 3
Andrew Brayshaw – 2
David Mundy – 0.5
Matt Taberner – 0.5

Adelaide 5.7.37 def by Geelong 9.11.65

The Cats got a scare from the Crows before kicking away in the final quarter to secure the four points. Cam Guthrie will be pushing All Australian honours after another great game where he collected 33 disposals, 8 marks, 5 tackles and 7 clearances. Jack Steven (24 disposals, 11 tackles, 6 clearances), Mitch Duncan (22 disposals, 6 tackles, 2 goals) and Patrick Dangerfield (27 disposals, 5 clearances) were also prominent. Matt Crouch (22 disposals, 14 tackles) and Rory Laird (28 disposals, 7 tackles) tried hard for the Crows to no avail.

Cam Guthrie – 3
Jack Steven – 2
Patrick Dangerfield – 0.5
Rory Laird – 0.5

Brisbane 6.14.50 def St.Kilda 7.6.48

The Lions had the yips once again but scraped over the line against the Saints to remain in the Top 2 on the AFL ladder. With Brownlow Medal favourite Lachie Neale well held, it was Jarrod Berry (20 disposals, 6 clearances, 2 goals) and Dayne Zorko (21 disposals, 6 marks) who found the ball in the middle. However it was their defence that won the game with Harris Andrews superb with 16 disposals and 5 marks, while Ryan Lester was good with 15 disposals and 8 marks. Jack Steele was arguably best on ground for his 25 disposals, 10 tackles and 1 goal for the Saints while Zac Jones (23 disposals) was also useful. Tricky game for votes.

Jack Steele – 3
Jarrod Berry – 1.5
Harris Andrews – 1.5

West Coast 9.7.61 def GWS Giants 7.7.49

The Eagles confirmed their status as a premiership threat with a two-goal win over the Giants. The win was setup from the first bounce as Nic Natanui (28 hitouts, 14 disposals, 7 clearances, 1 goal) put on a superb display in the ruck. Jeremy McGovern was impossible to pass in defence with 18 disposals and 10 marks while Josh Rotham chipped in with 16 disposals and 11 marks. Josh Kelly (26 disposals, 6 marks, 1 goal) was best for the Giants, while Jake Riccardi (16 disposals, 10 marks, 2 goals) was excellent on debut.

Nic Natanui – 3
Jeremy McGovern – 2
Josh Rotham – 0.5
Josh Kelly – 0.5

Collingwood 10.5.65 def North Melbourne 5.5.35

It wasn’t pretty but the Pies did enough to get the points against the struggling Roos. Scott Pendlebury was all class and helped the Pies kick away in the third quarter to end with 28 disposals and a goal. Taylor Adams (31 disposals, 5 clearances, 1 goal) was busy while Brayden Maynard (26 disposals, 6 tackles) swept up at half-back. Jed Anderson (30 disposals, 5 tackles, 9 clearances) was a hard nut in the middle for the Roos, Shaun Higgins (26 disposals, 6 marks) was good and Luke McDonald (30 disposals, 9 marks) floated around the backline.

Scott Pendlebury – 3
Taylor Adams – 2
Jed Anderson - 1
