Macarthur FC vs Adelaide United
Friday 7:05pm AEDT, Campbelltown Sports Stadium
The new kids on the block in Macarthur have been a breath of fresh air in the competition this season and have been playing solid football for the majority of the season. Their current record of 2 wins, 2 losses and 2 draws doesn’t tell the full story and have been unlucky not to win a couple more. They come into this off a 2-2 draw against the Wanderers where they led twice before conceding that lead so you can expect them to be keen to bounce back at home here tonight.
Adelaide head into this with a similar record sitting at 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses but the men in red have been in terrible form, having lost their last two matches. Playing away from home and up against a side playing well, I think Macarthur will be too strong for the struggling Adelaide side.
Wellington Phoenix vs Central Coast Mariners
Sunday 4:05pm AEDT, Wollongong Showground
Now this is a match that I am very interested to watch. The Mariners have arguably been the best side in the competition with an incredible turnaround from their poor performances of recent years. Alen Stajcic has his men playing inspiring football and look especially clinical going forward. The Mariners come into this with 5 wins from 7 matches and will be riding a wave of momentum after a stunning come from behind, 3-2 win against Western United. All eyes will be on rising star Alou Kuol who lit up the Central Coast as his second-half brace inspired a great win last week.
The Phoenix have struggled this season and it is understandable having to play away from home each week due to Covid. The Phoenix players will be struggling to find the motivation to keep getting themselves up each week after only winning one of their last five matches. They have only scored six times across five matches and their lack of creativity is starting to become an issue for Ufuk Talay’s side. I am surprised to see the Mariners as outsiders and the price on offer looks a great bet.

Brisbane Roar vs Newcastle Jets
Sunday 6:10pm AEDT, Moreton Daily Stadium
If the Mariners have been the best side so far this season, Brisbane can’t be too far behind with some awesome football being played across their opening five matches. They have won four of their six opening games this season but come into this after an upset loss to Macarthur a few days ago. The Roar will be keen to bounce back after that disappointment and get a great chance to do so here against an inconsistent Jets outfit.
The Jets on the other hand have been performing poorly and desperately need a win to get some momentum going in their season. They are only averaging one goal per game and will need to address their issues up the top of the field if they are to get a result in this one. These two sides met back in December where it was Brisbane who came out on top 2-1 so expect the Jets to try to look for some revenge in this one.
Pretty confident the Roar can come out on top and look like one of the form sides in the early days of the season.
