A-League Round 1 Betting Tips
Western United vs Adelaide United
Monday, 7pm AEDT
Western United come into the new season looking to improve on an impressive inaugural campaign in the A-League where they finished fifth and made it to the semi-finals. They haven’t made too many changes to their squad so they’ll be looking for experience and natural improvement to take them to the next step.
Adelaide United narrowly missed out on the finals with a seventh placed finish last season and will be hoping some of their off-season changes are enough to put them back in the mix. They did lose James Troisi however, which could prove to be a big loss going forward.
United get a perfect opportunity to start their season with a win on their home deck. We’re a big fan of their squad and believe they’ll be thereabouts in the title chase this season. Expect them to be able to negotiate a first up win in this contest.
Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne City
Tuesday, 7:05pm AEDT
Brisbane Roar performed well under tricky circumstances last season but haven’t performed well at all in the off-season in our opinion. They’ve had a whole host of key outs in their squad and not a lot of signings that would’ve had fans jumping out of their seats.
Melbourne City were a top two team all season long but weren’t able to negotiate the win in the Grand Final against Sydney FC, which is sure to give them motivation this season. They’ve hung onto just about all of their key players in the off-season and will be one of the key teams to watch in their upcoming campaign.
It’s always hard to know exactly where teams are at heading into a new season, but we’re expecting this to be a bit of a one-sided affair. City are a class outfit and have a fit and quality side that should prove too good against Roar in their opening round match.
Central Coast Mariners vs Newcastle Jets
Thursday, 7pm AEDT
Central Coast were the worst performing team last season and finished clear at the bottom of the table. Unfortunately, they haven’t signed anyone of note in the off-season, so it’s hard to see them fairing much better this campaign.
Newcastle had a poor campaign in 2019-20 where they finished in eighth spot on the table and like their opponents, haven’t done much in the off-season to suggest they’ll be big improvers in 2020-21.
The Mariners have been awful for a couple of seasons now and their off-season certainly doesn’t give much hope to fans, while the Jets have plenty of their own problems and will likely join their opponents at the bottom of the table this season. Neither attack screams ‘goals’, so we’re expecting a bit of a dull affair between two battling sides.
