AFL Round 19 Sunday Betting Tips
Western Bulldogs vs Fremantle Dockers (1:10pm, Marvel)
The Bulldogs really needed to win their last match against the Saints to keep their momentum and finals hopes alive. Instead, they went down by 27 points and now look highly unlikely to feature in September. The Bulldogs are sitting in 12th spot on the ladder with eight wins and nine losses, and a percentage that is the worst among four teams on 32 points.
The Dockers grinded out a win last weekend against the Swans, defeating them by a single point at Optus Stadium. One thing you can guarantee is that there won’t be anyone rushing to watch the replay of that match – it was a shocker. The Dockers are 11th on the ladder with eight wins and nine losses.
It’s 11th vs 12th here, which obviously makes this an absolute must-win for both sides. The loser will just about be mathematically out of finals contention, while the winner will keep their hopes well and truly alive. With so much on the line, we’re expecting a low scoring contest that goes right down to the wire.

Sydney Swans vs Geelong Cats (3:20pm, SCG)
If there was a match in Round 18 that summed of a team’s season, it was the Swans. Their 51-52 loss to the Dockers typified their boring brand of footy that has them sitting in 15thspot on the ladder with just six wins next to their name. They just can’t kick big scores at the moment, especially without Buddy lining up.
The Cats were just as disappointing as the Swans last weekend, but unlike the Swans, they can actually afford to drop a game or two. The Cats went down to their rivals in the Hawks by four goals, which means they’re now just one game clear at the top of the ladder. Scoring has really dried up for the Cats since their mid-season bye, with skipper Joel Selwood saying they’ve been playing “boring footy”.
The Cats may be in a bit of rut at the moment, but they should still be far too strong for the Swans. We have them bouncing back and winning this one comfortably.
Gold Coast Suns vs Essendon Bombers (4:40pm, Metricon)
The Suns put up a better fight last weekend than we’ve seen from them in previous weeks, although they still came away with a loss. They trailed the Blues for most of the day and eventually went down by four goals. The Suns are just about certainties to claim yet another Wooden Spoon, unless something drastic happens in the final couple of rounds.
On the other hand, the Bombers were absolutely fantastic last weekend when they came from behind to beat the Crows. They looked unstoppable with their run and carry in the second half and are now a very high chance to feature in September. The Bombers have won four in a row and six of their past seven games to surge into seventh spot on the ladder with a 10-7 record.
We’re expecting all one-way traffic in the final match of Round 19. Don’t overthink it, take the Bombers to win this by 40+.
