AFL Round 17 Sunday Betting Tips
Richmond Tigers vs GWS Giants (1:10pm, MCG)
The Tigers seem to have hit their straps and now look like a team that can certainly feature deep into September. Last weekend they absolutely demolished the Suns on the Gold Coast, defeating them by 92 points. The Tigers had six multiple goal kickers, with Castagna leading the way with five majors. Richmond are now 9-6 on the season and will welcome back Jack Riewoldt from injury.
The Giants are in contrasting form to that of the Tigers, and now find themselves falling out of touch with the top four. Last weekend they lost a crucial game to the Lions on their home deck, which could see them doing a lot more travelling in September than they intended. Now heading to Melbourne, the Giants are 9-6 on the season and sit in fifth spot on the ladder.
We all know how good the Tigers play at the MCG when they get going, and the good news for them is they play every single match there for the rest of the home and away season. On the other hand, the Giants have won just three games at the MCG in club history. With the Tigers now playing at their best, we’ll be taking them to get the job done comfortably on Sunday.

Western Bulldogs vs Melbourne Demons (3:20pm, Marvel)
The Bulldogs are another bottom 10 side that looks like making a real push towards finals. They’ve been super impressive over the past couple of weeks, defeating Port Adelaide in Adelaide and the ladder-leading Cats in Melbourne. Their midfield, led by Marcus Bontempelli, has been firing on all cylinders, while Naughton and Schache have been hitting the scoreboard up forward.
The Demons have had a season from hell and that really doesn’t look like changing anytime soon. Last weekend they only just scraped over the line against the Blues thanks to a late Jayden Hunt goal, which gave them the lead with just seconds remaining. The Demons have won only five games this season and are simply playing for pride at this point.
These two teams are in completely different form at the moment. The Bulldogs are in some of the best form of any team in the competition, while the Demons are in some of the worst. We’ll be taking the Dogs to win this one comfortably in our best bet for the round.

Port Adelaide Power vs Brisbane Lions (4:40pm, AO)
The Power were one of the most impressive teams in Round 16. They absolutely obliterated their cross-town rivals in the Crows, winning the Showdown by a whopping 57 points. They kicked nine unanswered goals to finish the match and keep their finals hopes well and truly alive. Robbie Gray won his fifth Showdown Medal, only furthering his case as the greatest Power player of all time.
The Lions also recorded a terrific win in Round 16 when they defeated the Giants in Sydney. The only question mark over the Lions form this season has been their ability to win on the road, but they’ve answered that question in recent weeks with a couple of statement wins. Last weekend's huge win propelled them into the top four and will give them a lot of momentum heading into the final few weeks of the home and away season.
This clash has the potential to be the best of the round, with both sides coming in with great winning form. The Power will start at around two-and-a-half goal favourites, which we believe is a bit unfair considering how red-hot the Lions have been lately. We expect them to cover the line and make this a really close contest.
