AFL Round 14 Saturday Betting Tips
Melbourne Demons vs Fremantle Dockers (1:45pm AEST)
The first of three games on Saturday comes from the MCG where the Demons will host the Dockers. Nearly every media person predicted the Demons to have another flag push this year, but that couldn’t have been further from the truth. They’ve struggled from the opening bounce of Round 1 and come into this weekend with a 3-9 record, which has them third last on the ladder.
The Dockers season has gone the opposite way to that of their opponents. They’ve surprised many with their ability to match it with the best in the competition. The real start starts now for Ross Lyon’s men though, as they must continue to play at a high level to stay in the mix for a finals spot. They’re currently sixth on the ladder with a 7-5 record.
For some reason the Demons come into this as slight favourites over the Dockers. It must be that punters still have faith in the Demons to turn around their poor season, which is hard to believe if you’ve actually watched the performances they’ve been dishing up. Needless to say, we’ll be taking the Dockers here.

St Kilda Saints vs Brisbane Lions (4:35pm AEST)
Second up on Saturday we’ll see the Saints take on the Lions in a twilight fixture at Marvel Stadium. The Saints scored a much-needed win in Round 13 against the Suns, but it certainly didn’t come easy. They trailed by as many as 31 points during the third quarter in what looked like a season-ending defeated. They were able to weather the storm however and come away four-point winners. Amazingly, the Saints are still right in the finals mix as they boast a 6-6 record coming into Round 14.
The Lions had a much-needed rest in Round 13 via the bye. This came after a really shocking loss to the Blues in Round 12 where they lead 40-3 at one point. They’ll be hoping their freshener will have them in good touch moving forward, because it’d be disappointing to not make the finals after such an exciting and promising first half of the season. The Lions are currently seventh on the ladder at 7-5.
Really tough one to call in terms of the head-to-head market here. The Lions are the better and more talented of the two sides, but have been poor in Melbourne this year, which should give the Saints equal opportunity to win. We believe the value lies in the Total Points market, where the Overs will be the play to be on. Both defences have been struggling this season and regular give up big points, which should only be enhanced by the fast track and perfect conditions at Marvel Stadium.

Port Adelaide Power vs Geelong Cats (7:40pm AEST)
The third and final fixture on Saturday has the potential to be the match of the round with the Power hosting the Cats at Adelaide Oval. Port Adelaide played their part in a fantastic duel with the Dockers last weekend, although they would go on to lose by 21 points on the road. Surprisingly, coach Ken Hinkley has swung the axe to an extent, dropping a couple of big-name players for their clash with the Cats. As it stands, Power are in ninth spot on the ladder with a 6-6 record.
The Cats were easily the best side in the competition during the first half of the season and come into this match against the Power fresh off their Round 13 bye. Their only blemish in their first 12 matches was a four-point loss to the Giants at GMHBA Stadium, which they were very unlucky not to win. The Cats are currently two wins clear at the top of the ladder with an 11-1 record.
It’s really, really hard to foresee a scenario in which the Cats don’t win this match, even if it is in Adelaide. The Cats have won each of their last four meetings with the Power and three of them were at Adelaide Oval. They’re the superior team in this contest and should salute without too much drama.
