Queen’s Birthday Betting Tips
Collingwood Magpies vs Melbourne Demons (Monday 3:20pm AEST, MCG)
What’s now one of the great days on the footy calendar for more reasons that one, the Magpies and Demons are set to do battle at the MCG for a great occasion. The Magpies are looking to bounce back from a tough loss last weekend, while the Demons are doing much of the same.
Collingwood Magpies
The Magpies come into this off their worst and most surprising loss of the season in Round 11 where they feel to the Dockers at the MCG. Looking like they had their grip on the match up until three-quarter time, Collingwood succumb to a relentless Dockers outfit that were too good on the day.
The Magpies Round 11 loss snapped their seven-game win streak and would give a lot of confidence to sides taking them on at the ‘G in future matches. The Pies are now 8-3 on the season and find themselves in third spot on the ladder.
The Magpies will be well rested for this match and have the bye in Round 13, so will be laying it all out on their on Monday afternoon. You can expect a big response from such a talented and proud club, which will be without Dayne Beams and Ben Reid but will welcome back Preliminary final hero Mason Cox.
Melbourne Demons
The Demons showed some of their best footy against the Crows in Round 11, but still managed to come way without the four points in a devastating loss. By and large, the Sam Weideman miss to win the match summed up the Dees season to date, which to say the least, has been a disaster.
The loss to the Crows made it three losses on the spin for the Demons and takes their season record to 3-9 and leaves them third last on the ladder and in real danger of making it impossible for them to make the finals.
Just like the Magpies, the Demons have the bye in Round 13 and will be looking to go all out in their attempt of clinching just their fourth win of the season. Simon Goodwin swung the axe mid-week, dropping four players but will welcome back some quality with the likes of Steven May and Jake Lever.
History
Historically, this has been a great rivalry with the Magpies leading the head-to-head 34-26 in their 60 meetings since 1980. The Demons have been looking to even the ledger in recent times, defeating the Magpies four times from their last six meetings.
Last five meetings:
2018 R12 – Melbourne (91) lost to Collingwood (133)
2017 R23 – Collingwood (99)defeated Melbourne (83)

Prediction
Despite their shock loss last weekend, the Magpies are quite clearly the form team of the two and will be confident they can bounce back with a win on the big stage. To be honest, we’re really surprised to see them open as just two-and-a-half goal favourites against the Demons and are more than happy to back them to cover the spread.
