For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow voting system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.

Robbie Gray wasn’t far behind him with 28 disposals, 5 tackles and 3 goals, Dan Houston (28 disposals) enjoyed some time in the midfield, and Jarrod Lienert (31 disposals, 8 marks) was also strong. Rowan Marshall was the lone Saint to stand tall with 24 disposals, 24 hitouts, 4 tackles and a goal.

Essendon 11.8.74 def Carlton 4.9.33
The final nail in the coffin for Brendan Bolton after one of the worst AFL matches of the season saw Essendon get the four points. Dyson Heppell led from the front with 36 disposals and a goal, while Darcy Parish had one of his best games with 31 disposals and 2 goals. Cale Hooker (31 disposals, 11 marks), Michael Hurley (28 disposals, 12 marks) and Andrew McGrath (32 disposals) dominated across half back and may be a chance for votes, as will youngster Dylan Clarke. Playing just his second AFL match, Clarke was given the task of tagging Patrick Cripps, and he restricted the pre-season Brownlow favourite to just 11 disposals (2 kicks) while picking up 23 disposals and 10 tackles for himself.
Dyson Heppell – 3
Darcy Parish – 2
Dylan Clarke – 1
West Coast 21.7.133 def Western Bulldogs 10.12.72
A thumping for the Dogs as the Eagles look back on track in the premiership defence. Andrew Gaff (36 disposals, 8 marks) and Luke Shuey (30 disposals) won the midfield battle, while Jack Darling was back to his 2018 form with 6 goals from 15 disposals and 6 marks. Josh Dunkley (33 disposals, 1 goal) and Caleb Daniel (34 disposals) tried hard on a disappointing day for the Dogs.
Andrew Gaff – 2.5
Jack Darling – 2.5
Luke Shuey – 1
Betting Note: Gaff is a tricky one as historically he has gathered a lot of possessions but still flies under the radar with umpires. We have him for quite a few “half” votes already this season, and if a few go his way, then he’s going to be right in contention to win the Brownlow. With the Eagles finding form and winning plenty of games, then Gaff looks worth a speculative bet at $34 at Ladbrokes.
