A-League Round 9 Betting Tips
Melbourne City vs Perth Glory
Friday, 7:30pm AEDT
Melbourne City had their scheduled bye in Round 8 and will be keen to get back out onto their home deck this weekend. City have had a fantastic start to the season with a 5-1-1 record and are still perfect at home at 3-0-0. It’s been a terrific responsive to their disappointing campaign in 2018-19 but there’s still a long way to go.
Perth Glory have endured a really tough start to their campaign and currently sit on the bottom of the ladder. It’s been a huge fall from grace for last season’s Premiers, although the season is still young, and they have plenty of time to turn things around. They come into this with a 1-2-1 road record and are 1-3-3 overall.
Melbourne City bring both form and fresh legs into this clash, which is something you certainly can’t say about Glory. It’s hard to see this one ending as anything other than a City win and we like the odds currently on offer. Happy to back them into anything around $2 at home in this one.
Sydney FC vs Brisbane Roar
Saturday, 7:30pm AEDT
Sydney were easy winners again last weekend when they defeated Western United 2-0 on the road. That win made it four league wins on the spin and six from seven on the season as a whole. They’re currently top of the table and look every bit like contenders again this season.
Brisbane Roar have shown glimpses of a good side this season, but it just hasn’t been on a consistent enough basis. They were 2-0 winners over the Mariners last weekend however, which was their second win of the season from seven attempts. They now hit the road where they are 0-2-2 and attempt to knock off the champs.
Sydney FC have been the most consistent team over the best part of five years now and are playing as good as at the current time. If you were expecting a title hangover, they certainly haven’t delivered. We see them being far too good for Roar at home and winning by 2+ goals.
Western United vs Melbourne Victory
Sunday, 4pm AEDT
Western United’s honeymoon period in their inaugural season is well and truly over. Last weekend they went down at home 2-0 to Sydney FC in what was their third loss in a row. Even more discouraging, United haven’t found the back of the net in over 300 minutes of play. Despite their recent slump, they remain inside the top six thanks to some good results early on.
Melbourne Victory finally claimed their second win of the season when they downed Perth Glory at home last weekend. They managed to hold off last year’s Premiers and keep a clean sheet despite Glory having 64% possession and 22 shots at goal. That win saw Victory jump a few spots on the ladder, but they still have a long way to go before they can be considered a threat for the title.
Neither of these clubs are in great form heading into this clash, but if it’s anything like their last meeting, then it’s must-watch TV. United got the chocolates in a 3-2 thriller earlier in the season, but we fancy Victory to hit back in Game 2 and get one over their new rivals.
