A-League Round 6 Betting Tips
Central Coast Mariners vs Adelaide United
Bluetongue Stadium, Saturday 5pm AEDT
The Mariners turned a few heads with their 2-1 away win over Perth Glory two weekends ago, but they failed to back up that performance successfully as they fell 3-1 away to City last round. It was a disappointing way to back up their biggest win in recent memory and has seen them slip back down to eighth on the ladder.
Adelaide United made it three wins on the spin when they scored in the clutch against Brisbane Roar last weekend. Riley McGree scored the timely winner in what was a much deserved three points. United are one of the hottest teams in the country at the moment and currently sit in fifth spot on the table after four fixtures.
The Mariners have shown signs of improvement this year, but it hasn’t been consistent enough for us to have any confidence in them here. We expect the in-form Adelaide outfit to get the job done on the road, making it four consecutive league wins.
Western United vs Newcastle Jets
GMHBA Stadium, Saturday 7:30pm AEDT
Western United’s first season in the A-League has been a great success so far. They’ve proven themselves time and time again as a legitimate threat and have now pulled off back-to-back wins against quality opposition. Last weekend they got the better of the then undefeated Wanderers, beating them 2-1 at home. United are now second on the latter with 10 points through five fixtures.
The Jets come into this off a 1-1 draw against Perth Glory last time out. Wins continue to elude the Jets and they’re now just one of three teams without taking maximum points from a game this season. They’re sitting in second last position on the ladder and are yet to keep a clean sheet this campaign.
This is a fairly straightforward play in our opinion. Although they’re in their inaugural A-League season, Western United have been playing much better than the Jets thus far. We expect them to prove too good on their home deck to claim their third consecutive league win.
Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory
Jubilee Stadium, Sunday 6:30pm AEDT
Sydney FC had their scheduled bye in Round 5 and should be super fresh coming into this rivalry fixture against Melbourne Victory. It’s been business as usual again this season for the defending champs who have recorded three wins from four fixtures. They’re currently four points behind the league-leading Melbourne City, but Sydney have a game in hand.
Melbourne Victory have been a big disappointment so far this season and look anything but the contenders we expected them to be. They failed to claim maximum points at home against the bottom of the table Phoenix last weekend, which means they’ve still won just one of their five fixtures this campaign. Now on the road, it could be able to go from bad to worse for the biggest club in the land.
We can’t see Victory having any success this weekend when they travel to take on the champs. Sydney FC have looked the far better of the two so far this season and will be nice and fresh after their week off. We see them winning this by 2+ goals at home.
