The 2019-20 A-League season continues this weekend with a double-header on Saturday followed by another big clash on Monday. As always, we bring you our best plays from the upcoming matches and wish you all the best of luck if following!
A-League Sat-Mon Matches
Wellington Phoenix vs Adelaide United
Bankwest Stadium (NSW), Saturday 5pm AEST
Wellington Phoenix were able to quickly put their loss to Sydney behind them to bounce back with an impressive 2-1 win against Perth Glory. The ‘Nix’ have now won 13 of their past 18 games and are travelling beautifully in third spot on the table. They certainly won’t be winning the minor premiership, but they’ll be a side no one wants to play in the finals on current form.
Adelaide United were winners in their only game to date since play resumed. They were able to negotiate a 1-0 win over Brisbane Roar despite losing the shot count convincingly (23-10). It was a much needed win for the Reds who are now in sixth spot on the table with a 10-0-12 record.
This is a very interesting fixture and it should be very easy on the eye with plenty of goals being scored. There have been 2+ goals and 16 in total over Wellington’s last five games and there’s been a whopping 20 goals scored in Adelaide’s last five. Further, in the last two meetings between these clubs there have been three goals and four goals scored and the Both Teams to Score market has saluted on each occasion.

Melbourne Victory vs Western United
Bankwest Stadium (NSW), Saturday 7:35pm AEST
Melbourne Victory and Western United both return to action for the first time since the break. Prior to the hiatus Victory had lost two games on the spin, both by three goal margins, which effectively ruled them out of the finals race this season. On the other hand, Western United were massive four goal winners in each of their last two games prior to the break and are sitting just three points out of the top six with two games in hand.
Strangely, Western United enter this clash as the underdogs, despite beating Victory in their only two meetings in their short history, coupled with the fact they’re ahead of the ladder and still in the finals race. We believe the bookies have gotten this wrong and the favouritism should be with United. We’re more than happy to back them in at the current quote to make it 3/3 against their cross-town rivals.
Central Coast Mariners vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Bluetongue Stadium (NSW), Monday 7:30pm AEST
The Mariners would’ve been more than happy for the season to be cancelled considering they’re en route to yet another wooden spoon in what has been a thoroughly disappointing campaign. The Mariners have lost an incredible 11 games in a row and have little motivating them.
The Wanderers will be back in action for the first time since the break when they vs the Mariners on Monday night. Prior to the break they were in OK form (2-1-2 last five) and remain in the race for a top six finish. They’re currently four points behind Adelaide in sixth but have a game in hand.
What a fantastic opportunity the Wanderers have to get back on the winners list here. They, like most, have had the wood over the Mariners for a number of years now, winning six of their past seven meetings. Moreover, the Wanderers have completed the half time/full time double in five of those six wins and are great odds to do it again on Monday night.
