Champions League Day 1 Betting Tips
Napoli vs Liverpool (Wednesday 5am AEST)
Napoli are one of the constant threats to Juventus in the Serie A, highlighted by their three runner-up finishes in the past four seasons. They’ve started off this season in OK form, winning two of their three matches to date. Dries Mertens has been their most consistent threat up forward with three goals from as many starts.
Liverpool have had another fantastic start to the season and sit five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table. They’ve been scoring goals at will with 15 in five games, compared to just four goals conceded. Sadio Mane scored two in his last outing, while Mo Salah kicked one.
Liverpool are by far the more talented of the two teams and are also in much better form. Home ground advantage will give Napoli a bit of confidence, but we expect the reigning UCL champions in Liverpool to get the job done.
Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona (Wednesday 5am AEST)
Dortmund have had a solid start to their season in the Bundesliga with three wins from four games to sit in second place. Their lone blemish was in the second game week where they lost 3-1 on the road to Union Berlin. They’re coming off a 4-0 win on the weekend where Marco Reus scored a brace.
Barcelona haven’t been at their brilliant best in the early part of their season in the La Liga. They’re currently in fifth position with two wins from four games, although they did look quite impressive in their 5-2 win over Valencia on the weekend. Luis Suarez was the star of the show with a second half brace after coming on as a substitute.
They haven’t been in the greatest of form so far, but Barcelona are expected to get a huge boost with the return of Lionel Messi from injury. He’s yet to feature this season but is poised to return mid-week to take on Dortmund. Despite his suspected return, we still have Dortmund winning this at their home, which is an absolute fortress to say the least.
Atletico Madrid vs Juventus (Thursday 5am AEST)
Atletico Madrid suffered their first loss of the season in the La Liga when they fell 2-0 to Real Sociedad on the weekend. The loss means they slip to second on the ladder, although they’re still ahead of rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid. Atletico haven’t been a huge goalscoring team historically, but five goals in four games thus far is a tad concerning.
Juventus are in an unfamiliar spot in Serie A, currently third behind Inter Milan and Bologna. A draw in their most recent clash with Fiorentina remains their only blemish, although it must be said they were lucky to get a point from that game as they lost the shot count 18-8. Cristiano Ronaldo has managed just one goal this season, which is a stat he’ll be desperate to improve on ASAP.
Both teams had disappointing results on the weekend, maybe because they already had one eye on this huge weekday clash. Atletico Madrid come in as favourites and for good reason. They’re incredibly hard to breakdown at home and we believe that will be the case once again. We’re happy to be on them at over $2 odds.
