2018 Super Rugby Round 6 Preview & Betting Tips

March 21st 2018, 5:58pm, By: matta91

Round 6 of the 2018 Super Rugby season starts this Friday and we have you covered with our Super Rugby betting tips for every match.

Super Rugby Round 6 Betting Tips

Crusaders vs Bulls (Friday, Mar 23 5:35pm AEDT)

Round 6 kicks off in New Zealand as the Crusaders host the Bulls. Both sides are coming into clash with losing streaks so they’ll be desperate for victory. For the Crusaders, they’ve lost two straight matches against NZ opponents by 10 or less points. Injuries has hurt their momentum but they should bounce back at home. They have a perfect 11-0 record at home since last season and also have a 18-0 record as a favourite in the betting. While for the Bulls, they’ve battled hard in a three match losing streak and have lost all three by under 20 points. So the line of 20.5 points seems high and they should be able to beat it. The Crusaders aren’t in great form at the moment but they should rebound at home by around 1-12 points.

TIP: Bulls +20.5 - $1.91 at Ladbrokes

Rebels vs Sharks (Friday, Mar 23 7:45pm AEDT)

Last week, the Rebels led 20-3 against the Waratahs but they went ended up conceding 51 of the next 58 points scored in a 51-27 loss. So they’ll be looking to bounce back at home in Round 6. While for the Sharks, they lost a close one against the Brumbies 24-17. They have never lost against the Rebels, however the two sides played in a 9-9 draw last season. Melbourne are a better side this season and they won’t be happy with last week’s result, especially in defence. They have a 2-0 record at home this season and they should have the Sharks covered in the points scoring department. The Sharks also just lost against the winless Brumbies, which isn’t a great sign for this contest. The Rebels have been a good bet at the line this season so I’ll take them to cover once again.

TIP: Rebels -5.5 - $1.91 at Ladbrokes

Sunwolves vs Chiefs (Saturday, Mar 24 3:15pm AEDT)

The Chiefs are massive favourites in this matchup to continue the Sunwolves’ losing streak. But the Sunwolves put up a great fight against the Lions last week in a 40-38 loss. They easily beat the 33 point line as a result. So there is hope they can contain the Chiefs at home this week. For the Chiefs, they’ve won two straight close matches over the Blues and Bulls. They haven’t looked overly impressive so hopefully this turns into another high scoring affair. Both sides average 30 points against this season and the Sunwolves haven’t been too bad at home this season. So the OVER total is worth taking when it’s available. Both sides have a good record against the over total this season and they combined for 79 points in Round 5.

TIP: OVER total points - TBA at Sportsbet

Hurricanes vs Highlanders (Saturday, Mar 24 5:35pm AEDT)

This is the match of Round 6 as the Hurricanes and Highlanders battle in Wellington. The Highlanders are just ahead of the Hurricanes in the New Zealand Conference so this is a crucial matchup. For the home side Hurricanes, they’re coming off a 29-19 win over the Crusaders at home and will be confident of another home win here. But the Highlanders are coming into this contest on the back of three straight wins. They also beat the Crusaders by 8 points in their last victory. So using both sides last win as a form guide, this match is the toughest pick of the round. I can’t confidently pick a winner so I’ll be backing either team to win by under 8.5 points.

TIP: Either team under 8.5 points - $2.20 at CrownBet

Stormers vs Reds (Sunday, Mar 25 2:15am AEDT)

The Stormers are back at home after a 37-20 win over the Blues in Round 5. They snapped a three game losing streak in the process. They’ve won both matches at home this season and will be confident against the Reds. However, the Reds are coming into this clash with three straight wins. Since their 45-19 loss against the Rebels, the Reds have conceded just 31 total points during this winning streak. So they can stop the Stormers attack. The Reds have a 3-1 ATS record this season so the line of 11.5 points is achievable. They own the second best defence in Super Rugby (19 points allowed per game) and that will be the key once again.

TIP: Reds +11.5 - $1.91 at Ladbrokes

Jaguares vs Lions (Sunday, Mar 25 8:40am AEDT)

In the last match of Round 6, the Lions and Jaguares meet again. They played each other in Round 2 and the Lions won comfortably in the end 47-27. Last week, the Lions weren’t overly impressive in a 40-38 victory over the winless Sunwolves. They’ve now conceded 35 or more points in three straight matches. So the Jaguares should be able to take advantage in attack. They’re coming off a disappointing 18-7 loss against the Reds. However, they’ve never been held under 20 points against the Lions in their 5 Super Rugby meetings. So the OVER total is a good bet. The Lions are 4-1 against the over total this season. They also lost the last matchup in Argentina, 36-24. So in 2 of the last 3 meetings, the total points has reached 60 or more.

TIP: OVER total points - TBA at Sportsbet
