Round 5 Super Rugby Betting Tips
Chiefs vs Bulls (Friday, Mar 16 5:35pm AEDT)
Friday night Super Rugby will be played in Hamilton between the Chiefs and Bulls. The Chiefs are coming off the bye and they’re playing their first match at home - two huge advantages. The Bulls continued their poor travelling record with a close loss against the Reds last week. Since last season, they’re 1-7 on the road. They’ve also lost the last two meetings in NZ against the Chiefs 28-12 and 34-20. The Chiefs are 7-1 at home in that span and since 2013, they’re 24-4 in night matches at home. But the Bulls have been given a huge line to beat which they have covered in both losses against the Chiefs as well as against the Reds last match. The Chiefs should win but the Bulls can keep it under 18.5 points.
TIP: Bulls +18.5 - $1.91 at Ladbrokes
Highlanders vs Crusaders (Saturday, Mar 17 5:35pm AEDT)
This should be a cracking contest between the Highlanders and Crusaders. Both sides have won two matches this season so a three win start will be important. The Highlanders are 2-0 and easily beat the Stormers last week 33-15. The Crusaders lost their first match of the season as they went down to the Hurricanes. They’re currently struggling with a number of injuries. Yet the Crusaders are still favourites. The Highlanders have lost three in a row against the Crusaders but they should have them covered this time around. They’re 8-2 at home since last season and they’re paying good odds for the win.
TIP: Highlanders WIN - $2 at Ladbrokes
Brumbies vs Sharks (Saturday, Mar 17 7:45pm AEDT)
The Brumbies are coming off two straight poor performances. They were well beaten by the Reds 18-10 and lost comfortably to the improved Rebels last week. This is their first home match of the season but the Sharks did beat them 27-22 here last season. They put up 50 points on the Sunwolves last week and will look to keep it going against the Brumbies. ACT has scored 20 total points in their last two losses so the Sharks look to have them covered in attack. But I can see the Brumbies improving at home with their season on the line. So it’s a tough pick and the tri-bet is the safe bet.
TIP: Either Team Under 8.5 Points - $2.15 at CrownBet
Stormers vs Blues (Sunday, Mar 18 12:05am AEDT)
This should be an interesting clash in Cape Town between the Stormers and Blues. The Blues knocked off the Lions last week in a huge upset and their first win of the season. While for the Stormers, they’re back at home after three straight away losses. Although, they have a 5-1 record against the Blues and have won the last two by 1-12. However, the win over the Lions will give the Blues a lot of confidence. So in the end, this match could go either way and the either team to win market is the safe bet.
TIP: Either Team Under 8.5 Points - $2.15 at CrownBet
Lions vs Sunwolves (Sunday, Mar 18 2:15am AEDT)
The Lions won’t be happy after last week’s collapse and the Sunwolves are probably going to cope it. They were absolutely thrashed 94-7 in this matchup last year. Last week, the Lions led 28-10 but went down 38-35 in a thriller. While for the Sunwolves, they conceded 50 points in a loss to the Sharks. They always struggle in away matches and this will be no different. I took the Sharks -23.5 last week and the large line for the Lions is the play this week.
TIP: Lions -33.5 - $1.91 at CrownBet
Jaguares vs Reds (Sunday, Mar 18 8:40am AEDT)
Both the Jaguares and Reds won last week so this is an important clash in Argentina. For the Jags, they snapped a three match losing streak with an impressive win over the Waratahs. They beat the Reds at this venue last season 22-8 and will be confident of another win. The Reds won a battle against the Bulls 20-14 at home last week. But they don’t have a great away record. Since last season they’re 1-8 on the road and as mentioned, lost here last year. So the value is for the Jags to win by 1-12 again at home.
TIP: Jaguares 1-12 - $3.10 at Ladbrokes
Waratahs vs Rebels (Sunday, Mar 18 4:05pm AEDT)
The last match of Round 5 is a key Australian clash for the Rebels and Waratahs. For the Rebels, they’ve improved immensely from last season after three straight wins. They’re averaging 38.3 points per match and have conceded just 15 per match. They lead the Australian conference so they’ll be looking to stretch the gap against NSW. The Waratahs were really poor against the winless Jags as they went down 38-28. They do have an 11-2 record against the Rebels but that doesn’t mean much now. The Rebels look to have the Waratahs covered in attack and they can stop them in defence. So take the Rebels at Sportsbet for the best value.
TIP: Rebels WIN - $2.10 at Sportsbet
