Super Rugby Round 4 Betting Tips
Highlanders vs Stormers (Friday, Mar 9 5:35pm AEDT)
Round 4 kicks off in Dunedin with the refreshed Highlanders against the Stormers. The Highlanders had the bye last week and that should be a huge advantage. The Stormers have already lost two matches on the road this season and it doesn’t get any easier this round. They started slowly against the Crusaders last week and lost against the Waratahs past 80 minutes. They were also beaten by the Highlanders 57-14 last season and they are the underdog once again. The Highlanders look to have more points in them again after winning 41-34 in their first Super Rugby match this season. Since last season they’re 7-2 at home and have the Stormers covered in all areas.
TIP: Highlanders -15.5 - $1.90 at Sportsbet
Rebels vs Brumbies (Friday, Mar 9 7:45pm AEDT)
Friday night Super Rugby in Australia is a crucial clash between the Rebels and Brumbies. With new faces and Will Genia, the Rebels have looked outstanding in their two victories. They smashed the Reds at home and comfortably beat the Sunwolves in Japan. While for the Brumbies, they have looked very average. They struggled for points against the Reds and went down 18-10. They also only just beat the Sunwolves in Round 2. So the Rebels look to have enough points in them to beat the Brumbies. They’re already averaging 41 ppg and I can’t see the Brumbies hanging with them.
TIP: Rebels -3.5 - $1.90 at CrownBet
Hurricanes vs Crusaders (Saturday, Mar 10 5:35pm AEDT)
The Crusaders have not slowed down in 2018 as they’ve cruised to victory in both matches. They beat the Stormers 45-28 last week and also put up 40 points on the Chiefs in Round 2. So their attack will be the key again in Round 4. The Hurricanes are back at home after a 1-1 away record to start the season. They lost a close match against the Bulls, then they thrashed the Jags in Argentina 34-9. They are going to be very confident against the Crusaders after beating them at home 31-22 last season. They’ve averaged just 15 points against in their two matches so they need to stop the Crusaders in attack. In the end, this match is one of the toughest picks of the Round so the either team to win by under 8.5 points is a good bet.
TIP: Either team under 8.5 points - $2.15 at CrownBet
Reds vs Bulls (Saturday, Mar 10 7:45pm AEDT)
The Reds meet the Bulls at home on Saturday night and this is an important matchup. Both sides are 1-1 this season and will be looking to go 2-1. The two sides didn’t meet last season and they haven’t played in Australia since 2013. Since 2010, they’ve both won 3 matches against each other. Last week, the Bulls couldn’t stop the Lions last week in a 49-35 loss. While for the Reds, they managed to beat the Brumbies without crossing the try-line. The Reds will be confident at home, especially since they’ve never lost against the Bulls in Brisbane. The Bulls also went just 1-6 on the road last season so this looks like a tough trip. Although it should be close, the value is for the Reds 1-12 in front of their home fans.
TIP: Reds 1-12 - $2.88 at Sportsbet
Sharks vs Sunwolves (Sunday, Mar 11 12:05am AEDT)
The Sharks are massive favourites in this Round 4 matchup against the Sunwolves. They’ve beaten them in the two previous meetings, 38-17 and 40-29 at this venue. The Sharks have started the season fairly poorly with a draw against the Waratahs and a 7 point loss against the Lions. However, that should change against the Sunwolves. The Japanese side has never won a Super Rugby match away from Japan (0-15) and they have started this season with two home losses. So the 23.5 point line isn’t that scary.
TIP: Sharks -23.5 - $1.91 at Ladbrokes
Lions vs Blues (Sunday, Mar 11 2:15am AEDT)
The Lions have started the season on fire with three straight wins and will look to continue the Blues woes. The South Africans have scored 40+ in back to back matches and the Blues will likely struggle to contain them. In their two losses so far, they’ve conceded an average of 34 points. Last week, they lost at home 27-21 and lost against the Highlanders 41-34. In the last meeting between the two sides, the Lions thrashed them 43-5. It probably won’t be as bad this time-around. However, it’s hard to stop this Lions attack and that will be the major difference.
TIP: Lions -7.5 - $1.91 at Ladbrokes
Jaguares vs Waratahs (Sunday, Mar 11 8:40am AEDT)
In the last match of the round, the Waratahs travel to Argentina for this clash against the Jaguares. The Jags have been very poor in their three losses so far and the Waratahs will look to take advantage. They played in a draw against the Sharks in Durban last week and also just beat the Stormers at home previously. So they should have more points in them against the Jags. The Jags have allowed 36.3 points per match so far and only average 18 points for. They did beat the Waratahs last season 40-27 in Sydney. But their form this season is not great and I’ll be backing the Waratahs to cover.
TIP: Waratahs -2.5 - $1.91 at Ladbrokes
