Super Rugby Round 3 Betting Tips
Blues vs Chiefs (Friday, Mar 2 5:35pm AEDT)
The Blues and Chiefs are both coming off losses so this is an important clash in Round 3. For the Chiefs, they actually led against the Crusaders at one stage but a red card hurt their chances in the end. While for the Blues, they played in a high scoring thriller against the Highlanders. Looking at the head to head, the Chiefs have dominated the Blues in Super Rugby with an 11-2-1 record. However, the two sides played in a 16-16 draw last year and this should be another close one. In the end, the value is in this matchup is either to win under 8.5 points. I can’t see a blowout and it’s a tough call to pick the winning team.
TIP: Either Team Under 8.5 Points - $2.15 at CrownBet
Reds vs Brumbies (Friday, Mar 2 8:00pm AEDT)
On Friday night, the Reds will host the Brumbies at Suncorp. For the Reds, their season didn’t start well as they were thrashed by the Rebels in Melbourne. Although, they were without a player for most of the match due to a red card. They have a number of talented players out and will need to win their home matches this season for a chance at finals. While for the Brumbies, they weren’t great in Japan against the Sunwolves with a 32-25 victory. But a win is a win and they should be confident against the Reds. They are 8-5-1 against them in Super Rugby. They did lose last year by a point in a 16-15 scoreline. So in the betting stats, the under total looks great here as it’s 6-0 in the last 6 meetings between the sides at Suncorp.
TIP: Under Total Points - TBA
Sunwolves vs Rebels (Saturday, Mar 3 3:15pm AEDT)
The Sunwolves proved last week that they will likely be a tough home opponent this season. They dominated the Brumbies in the first half and probably lost in the end due to inexperience. In Round 3, the Rebels come to Japan. They are coming off one of their best performances in Super Rugby. They broke a team record for tries and points in a match against the poor Reds. The two sides have met just once in Super Rugby and the Rebels won in Japan 35-9. So after last week, the Rebels at the line looks to be the best bet.
TIP: Rebels -7 - $1.90 at Palmerbet
Crusaders vs Stormers (Saturday, Mar 3 5:35pm AEDT)
The Crusaders showed no signs of a Grand Final hangover as they outlasted the Chiefs in the end last week. They are comfortable favourites against the Stormers and the head to head also favours the home side. They have a 6-1 record against the Stormers and smashed them 57-24 at this venue last season. For the Stormers, they are coming off a close loss against the Waratahs in Sydney. The difference between the sides will likely be in defence. The Stormers average 28 points against in the last two seasons and the Crusaders average 34 points per game. They put up 45 against the Chiefs and based on the last meeting against the Stormers, this could be another 40+ performance. But in the end, the Stormers should be able to keep this within the huge 17.5 point line.
TIP: Stormers +17.5 - $1.90 at Palmerbet
Sharks vs Waratahs (Sunday, Mar 4 12:05am AEDT)
The Waratahs travel to South Africa this week full of confidence. They knocked off the Stormers after 80 minutes last week in a great victory to start the season. However, this looks to be another tough challenge. They are 0-3 against the Sharks in South Africa and their 2-6 away record from last season is an issue. The Sharks had the bye last week after they played in a close loss against the Lions (26-19). They went 5-2-1 at home last season and their home record against the Waratahs is hard to bet against. They are 11-6 ATS since last season and the Waratahs are just 8-14 ATS on the road since 2013. So I’ll be taking the Sharks to cover.
TIP: Sharks -5.5 - $1.91 at CrownBet
Bulls vs Lions (Sunday, Mar 4 2:15am AEDT)
The Lions have kicked off the season in fine style with two straight wins. After losing the Grand Final last year, they are looking like one of the favourites once again. Their record against the Bulls is impressive as well. In the last two meetings, they have beaten them 51-14 and 56-20. So the Bulls will need to find some defence this time around. They should be confident after keeping the Hurricanes to 19 points last week. But looking at the past two results against this Lions side, it’s hard to back against a 13+ victory once again.
TIP: Lions 13+ - $2.14 at Palmerbet
Jaguares vs Hurricanes (Sunday, Mar 4 8:40am AEDT)
In the last match of Round 3, the Jaguares and Hurricanes will be looking for their first victory of the season. For the Jaguares, they are back at home after two tough losses in South Africa. They led 10-0 against the Lions but struggled after the Lions scored a few back to back tries in a 47-27 scoreline. While for the Hurricanes, they lost by 2 points against the Bulls in South Africa. The two teams have met just once in Super Rugby and the Hurricanes won 40-22 at home. But hopefully at home the Jaguares can keep this under 13.5 points.
TIP: Jaguares +13.5 - $1.93 at CrownBet
