Once again Before You Bet is back with our rolling Brownlow Medal Tracker for the 2018 season. We’ll be providing comments for every game of the season, along with our vote predictions to help with your projections for the 2018 AFL season.
Our Brownlow predictions are one of the most popular aspects of the site with punters able to scoop huge profits using the information found in these pages. You’ll be able to stay up to date with our current Top 20 2018 Brownlow Medal leaderboard, while there will be links to every single round-by-round voting posted there.
For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can form a 'range' for each player (ie a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.
If you intend on using our Brownlow votes to bet why not consider one of the best Australian sports betting sites which offer some great incentives for new customers. 2018 Brownlow Medal Predicted Votes – Round 19
Essendon 15.19.109 def Sydney 10.6.66
The Swans’ finals hopes are quickly fading with another poor loss, this time at the hands of the Bombers who are surging in the other direction. Dyson Heppell led from the front with 31 disposals and 8 marks, while David Myers (25 disposals, 6 tackles, 1 goal) and Darcy Parish (26 disposals, 1 goal) were also good in the middle. However one of the most important contributors was Michael Hurley who only had 12 touches, but kept danger man Lance Franklin to just 7 disposals and 2 goals.
Dyson Heppell – 3
Michael Hurley - 2
David Myers - 1
Richmond 16.9.105 def Collingwood 12.5.77
In one of the biggest home-and-away matches in history, Richmond confirmed themselves as premiership favourites as they wore down the Pies. In a strange twist, the stats sheet is completely misleading as Scott Pendlebury (37 disposals, 1 goal), Steele Sidebottom (38 disposals) and Tom Phillips all won plenty of the ball for the Pies, while Brodie Grundy (48 hitouts, 23 disposals, 10 tackles) was the dominant big man on the ground. Shane Edwards (22 disposals, 5 tackles) and Dion Prestia (21 disposals, 7 tackles) were strong in the midfield while the rebound off half-back came from Jayden Short (19 disposals, 2 goals) and David Astbury (21 disposals, 7 marks). A tough game to give votes!
Brodie Grundy – 3
Shane Edwards – 1.5
Scott Pendlebury – 1.5
Geelong 18.12.120 def Brisbane 11.12.78
Big Tom Hawkins continued his charge towards the Coleman medal with 7 goals from 22 disposals and 10 marks in another best-on-ground performance. Gary Ablett was superb with 38 disposals and 8 marks, while Mitch Duncan (28 disposals, 10 marks) and Patrick Dangerfield (26 disposals) were also very good. Dayne Beams might be a chance for a vote for the visitors for his 37 touches and a goal.
Tom Hawkins – 3
Gary Ablett – 2
Dayne Beams - 1
GWS 13.8.86 def St. Kilda 8.13.61
The Giants got the four points against the Saints with Lachie Whitfield likely to grab 3 votes for 32 possessions and 11 marks. Josh Kelly (32 disposals, 8 marks) and Stephen Coniglio (29 disposals) were also good contributors, while Harry Himmelberg finished the work for 4 goals. Jade Gresham (25 disposals, 2 goals) was lively for the Saints, while Jack Steele did a good stopping job on Callan Ward while also picking up 24 touches of his own.
Lachie Whitfield - 3
Josh Kelly - 2
Stephen Coniglio – 0.5
Jade Gresham – 0.5

Patrick Cripps was clearly best with a massive 37 disposals, 11 tackles and a goal, but was well supported by Marc Murphy who picked up 36 touches and a goal. Sam Petrevski-Seton was classy with 26 possessions while Charlie Curnow was a strong target with 18 disposals, 10 marks and a goal.

Marc Murphy – 2
Sam Petrevski-Seton – 1

North Melbourne 12.9.81 def West Coast 6.5.41
It was a must-win game for the Roos and they delivered in a scrappy game in Hobart. The in-and-under game suited the contested style of Ben Cunnington (39 disposals, 10 tackles, 1 goal) and youngster Paul Ahern (37 disposals) who were both brilliant, with Todd Goldstein giving them first use with 44 hitouts, 22 disposals and a goal.
Ben Cunnington – 2.5
Paul Ahern – 2.5
Todd Goldstein - 1
Western Bulldogs 5.4.34 def by Port Adelaide 11.12.78
Charlie Dixon defied the icy-cold conditions to kick 5 goals from 14 possessions to help the Power to victory. Jared Polec (32 disposals), Ollie Wines (26 disposals) and Chad Wingard (25 disposals, 1 goal) were the chief ball winners for the Power. Jacke Macrae (36 disposals) and Lachie Hunter (35 disposals) were typically prolific, while Jackson Trengrove shone against his old team with 22 disposals, 28 hitouts and 2 goals.

Fremantle 7.11.53 def by Hawthorn 17.10.112
A big away win for the Hawks sets them up for September action with Tom Mitchell again a dominant force. For some reason, coaches still resist the urge to tag him and Mitchell punished Freo with 42 disposals, 9 marks, 5 tackles and 2 goals in yet another best-on-ground effort. Jaegar O’Meara returned to the team with 33 disposals, 8 marks and a goal, while Luke Breust was as consistent as ever with 4 goals from 19 disposals. Lachie Neale (36 disposals) and David Mundy (34 disposals, 1 goal) tried hard to no avail.
Tom Mitchell – 3
Jaegar O’Meara – 2
Luke Breust - 1
